A great little place in Vergennes, I went to Bar Antisote with friends from Charlotte to hear Greenbush play jazz, drink Bar Antidote's own beer that they brew nearby, and have dinner. The beer was nice (IPA and Milk Stout under nitro), the food was good, and the Jazz was outstanding!

Vergennes is a charming little town a few miles south of Middlebury. About a block off the main street in a basement of a house one finds the central focus of the town nightlife here at the Antidote. Upon entry is a narrow room with booths; in the back is a larger room with tables amid a central bar that provides antidotes to a hard Vermont day. The majority of taps offer Vermont beers, such as Switchback and Fiddlehead. I have had a can (or two) of Heady Topper on occasion. Include to this mix, friendly service, excellent food and some live music and you have a go-to venue when in the Green Mountain State.

BTW: the serene rive you cross on the way into town is the Otter Creek, which provides the name of another fine brewery.

Alewife and I stopped in here on 10NOV13, on the suggestion of our B&B hosts....

Found on the edge of town, just before hitting the downtown area. It's located in the basement level of the indicated address. Enter and down some stairs to the hostess station, beyond which are 4-5 booths. Further through is the bar/lounge area, and to the rear right is a small game-room area. Being windowless, it is somewhat dimly lit, yet still warm and comfy. We parked at the bar and let Audrey take care of us. They had about 12-15 drafts, most of which were VT offerings, like Long Trail, Switchback, Fiddlehead, and Otter Creek. Add in some Smuttynose, Allagash and stuff from the west coast, and it's a decent list! I had a nice chicken sub with Alewife downing a tasty pork sammich. A very comfy, likable place. Prosit!
