Sebago Brewing Company - Gotham Brewpub

I went to the Gorham location this past Sunday for their weekly brunch; the place felt much more like a restaurant than a bar that morning. I was seated facing away from the bar and I could barely tell the place was a brewpub, it really felt like a normal restaurant. There was a number of families with small kids and an elderly couple who came, ordered, ate, paid and left all while we were there. They didn't even order any drinks. You can tell that the clientele on a Sunday morning is much different than what you would expect on a weekend night.

The brunch selections are limited, one side of the menu has breakfast items (scrambled eggs, omelets, corned beef hash, french toast) and one side has lunch items (burgers, sandwiches), but you'll be able to find somethign that looks good. The food isn't very expensive and is of the high quality you'll find at the other Sebago locations.

The service was generally good but a little generic. There wasn't anything to distinguish our waitress from the service we've had at countless other places, save the Sebago logo on her shirt. That's not to say it was bad; it was prompt, unobtrusive and unremarkable. I don't think the staff working the brunch shift is on the look out for BAs (I was asked if I wanted a lemon in my HefeWeizen, which I declined, but at least she asked). I wouldn't go at this time if you wanted to ask a lot of questions about the brews, but if you want to go drink a fine beer before noon among the after church crowd, this is your place. I'll definitely go here for brunch again.

 

 

 

The taproom is quite cosy and vibrant. Sebago is one of my favorite breweries so the beers are all good. Only small kitchen but quality food. Good selection.

 

 

 

Great pub for family's to friends. Go in the summer and sit out back on the deck in the sun or hunker down inside the old train station on a cold snowy night.

Food is solid and creative. Gets lumped in as an "old" micro brewery, but they have evolved a ton in the last 2-3

Stopped by here twice during the Old Boars Hockey Tourney weekend (05-07AUG11). First, on the afternoon of 05Aug with Artied2, Al H, and UncleAl (out on the patio) and again with Artied2 and Al H on the eve of 06Aug (at the bar).

Sebago Gorham is situated in a former train station, a small, white-washed, one-story wooden building in a quiet section of town. Through a small foyer to the dining area, a bright, well-lit room with a number of tables and booths spreading off to the left. Moving a bit further on, beyond a small partition, are more tables and the bar, in the back of the room. Some artworks adorn the walls, with a few ferns strewn about, and a couple of TVs hung over the bar area. Exiting a door to the right-rear brings you to the patio, where about 9 tables of various sizes sit on the deck, with a score of large trees offering shade and quiet. Soft pop and rock music filled the background as we dined and quaffed.

They had about 7 different biers on here, from a hefeweizen to a brown, from a blueberry to an IPA. The hefe- and IPA were solid and tasty, and Artied2 noted the blueberry was tasty as well. Our servers, both out on the deck and behind the bar, were spot-on; attentive and friendly. Various foods were sampled: chicken wings, pulled-pork, chowder, etc; all were well-made and filling. Prices were reasonable for this day and age, where everything seems to be going through the roof. Two enjoyable visits were had; a return is a distinct possibility. Prosit!!

So: never been to a Sebago Location? There's a reason this location was able to open: the folks at Sebago pay attention to all the little things that make a good brewpub: foodpeoplealeatmospherealelocationcleanlinessbeerpricesale
The brewers have a larger system to work with and a consistancy that the smaller brewers cannot hope to muster. The IPA is my "usual" and their stout is very good. Happy Hour prices are generous.

So what's the deal with this, the third location to open? For one thing, it has the best outdoor seating of the three, with tables in a quiet area under leafy trees. For another, the location is cozier with bar and dinner seating connected in one room. I have also noticed that while I have never had a wait for a table in SoPo or Portland, Gorham sometimes has a group of people circled around the entrance.

I have made the 15 minute trip to Gorham a number of times just to go to Sebago Gorham, even with two locations within five minutes of my house. So I guess that should tell you something!
