Notes / Commercial Description:

L - gold-yellow, clear; nice solid white head that dissipates quickly
S & T - grassy hops, light bready wheaty, refreshing citrussy freshness, dandelion floralness...
F - thin, nice and spritzy, easily sessionable

O - very solid sessionable beer. Very refreshing. Not a sipper, though. This is a beer that is best enjoyed at the end of a nice summery day by taking some big ol' swigs followed by a content sigh and some lip smacking. It's still not quite my style, but it made me feel just a little bit in Cologne, and that makes me happy.

On-draught @ the brewpub on Koln.

HEAD: Pours 2 inches of white frothy goodness. Retention is good - ~5-6 minutes. No lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes.

BODY: Clear clean yellow. Obviously filtered. Nice vibrance.

It's spot-on for the style, and this appearance suggests a clean drinking refreshing brew.

AROMA: Munich malts, faint floral and grassy hop notes. Slight graininess and creaminess.

Simplistic but effective, again suggesting a clean refreshing beer. Aromatic intensity is average. I'm cone across Kolschbiere with more subtlety and nuance in terms of aroma, but this is quite pleasant nonetheless.

T: Matches the aroma, which is to say it's simple for the style without coming off plain. Superb balance and a pleasant flavour profile make this quite enjoyable and approachable. Hop profile is pronounced by German standards, but this isn't as pungent hopwise as, say, Paffgen's offering in the style.

TEXTURE: Clean, light-bodied, delicate, smooth, wet, and above all refreshing, with a crisp spritzy presence on the palate. Complements the taste nicely, but I do wish the flavour profile offered more nuanced notes for the mouthfeel to accentuate. It is a bit overcarbonated, though, to be fair.

OVERALL: The mouthfeel's quality exceeds that of the taste, though this beer's balance and insane drinkability alone make it a must-try when in Koln. I'd certainly recommend giving it a go, though it's not the best beer I've had in the style. That said, it surpasses almost every American expression of the style I've tried to date.

No doubt, this is best from a stange on-draught at the brauhaus.

The best Kölsch in the world! This amazing brew has a beautiful light golden color and a thick creamy head. Its absolute refreshing and very easy to drink. You really feel the amazing hop quality with every sip! This Kölsch has a very nice sweet aftertaste. Its interesting that every bottle has an expiration date of only 4 months. I highly recommend this fresh Kölsch. One of the best german beers and the best Kölsch on the market!

From bottle

Smells of grassy hops, wheat and a copper, malty hint.

Has light, very refreshing mouthfeel.

Tastes of hay, grassy, slightly dank hops with a metallic high carbonation. Finishes with a decent hop presence, while being well balanced by bready malts, resulting in a pleasant, dry finish.

Exellent example of a well made Kölsch. Light bodied, utmost refreshing with a nice hoppiness.

Poured from the bottle into a pils style glass. Bottled Aug 8th 2014, good till Dec 8th 2014.

Deep brass gold, with wonderful thin streams of slow rising carbonation. Head is a three finger fluffy and bleach white with a thick fluffy cap of about a finger. Light lacing in rings on the glass, as it is consumed. Real nice with a fantastic look.

Great fantastic nose. Hints of deep bread and chewy like malt, with a wine like spritzy quality of lemon and herbs. Dense and nice light hop aromatics, even almost floral. Fantastic smelling.

Palate just sings wonderfully. As wonderful as a malt density hits, with a light carbonation and aromatic herbality. Hints toward light green herbs with a big bakery density sweetness. Light bodied feel but with a huge controlled honey coating.

Lip smacking good, and a perfect example of the style. Hits the bakery notes with a light control and feel, and a great interesting but muted and noticeable hop quality. Excellent beer, I could drink a lot of this.
