Cellared bottle into a tulip glass.

L: Jet black with 1.5 fingers of light brown head with good retention and left sheeting lacing.

S: Great nose, mostly barrel elements and roasted malts.

T: Less dynamic and impressive than the nose.

F: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, silky on the tongue and swallow.

O: Solid BA stout from a brewery I've never tried before today. Solid Tavour purchase.

Brewed in Bremerton. This is a very dark, hugely flavored, highly alcoholic throbbing beast of a beer. Silky mouthfeel with adequate carbonation. Hot with alcohol and, apparently, mare's sweat. Dark, dark caramel and burnt, burnt sugar. It's an interesting thing to sip on. It's taken me a week to get thru the bottle with an occasional late-night snort.

Sweet but bitter. Flavor is quite grainy. The aftertaste is extremely bitter, but makes for an all-round extravagant experience hitting all the taste buds squarely with a large hammer. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham.

22 ounce bottle poured into a tulip. An opaque black color with a thick tan head. Smells of charcoal and coffee. A nice dark roasted flavor with a sweetness of dark fruits. Mouthfeel is a light for the style but very good. Overall a very good imperial stout.

Very dark brown to black pour with a tan head which lingers on the edges of the glass but did not cover the beer. Scent is of Dark Chocolate and a small amount of espresso. Taste is very mild with chocolate and the slight amount of espresso. I am tasting a little dark berry taste on the back on my tongue. This is very thin compared to what it is described as and the alcohol is present due to how thin it is. It is also slightly creamy. Thankful my brother sent it to me, but did not wow me.

22oz bottle served in pint glass. Beer is pitch black and oily, with a moderate brown head that slowly falls. There's a fruity sourness to the aroma, like muddled berries. That feature carries through to the flavor, which reminds me of a chocolate torte. Specifically, with raspberry jam. The classic richness of a Russian imperial stout is diluted with this modern estery quality and American hops. Silky smooth and creamy mouthfeel. At 9.2% it's pretty heady. I think I'm going to enjoy drinking this, but I can't say it's exceptional, just a good, solid B+.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours pitch black, appearing opaque black in the glass with a quarter finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of semi-sweet dark toasted malt, licorice, cocoa and hints of vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt with good char, licorice, bitter chocolate, bottom of the pot coffee, grassy hops. Finishes with cocoa, char and grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with nice medium creamy body, good mouth feel. A rather charry and hoppy stout, with a distinct burnt note. The base malt is nice and solid and supports the smoky char quite well. Although the aroma had a light sweetness, the taste is fairly dry, which works with other flavors. The initial taste is dark and charry enough that it took me back a little, but this one grew on me as I drank it, kind of like a high cacao chocolate that tastes intense and dark at first, but slowly reveals its deep flavor. Nicely done overall, looks, smells and tastes rich and charry. A nice change from the somewhat sweeter stouts I usually crave..

The aroma has hints of coffee. The color is black on black on black. The taste is good not as thick as it looks. The aftertaste is good. All around a good beer.
