Spontaneous BIF: Hints and Hauls

What mixture/steps do you use to wax your bottles? Also, my family owns a store up in Dallas, which I manage, so boxes aren't an issue.. but I had a smaller one lying around, and really wanted the box shipped that day because it felt like I was later than everyone else, so I kinda rushed

All that aside, that's a great way to ship! I haven't thought of that. It seems a bit easier and much safer!

 

Box inside a box is the way to go. I surround the inside box with newspaper/bubble wrap/peanuts (whatever, really) and its safe in its own little cocoon.

As for waxing, I just buy bags of bottle wax from my local homebrew store (I use Austin Homebrew, and if you dont have a store nearby, you can buy online from them or someone else). Cost about $11, and will wax 60-80 bottles per bag.

Put the wax pellets in a clean soup can, put the can in a pan of boiling water until the pellets melt, take can out of the water, and dip bottles. Some people like to let the wax run down the bottle for that drippy look, but I hold them upside down so the wax drips back into the can and I get a more clean look. For trade bottles I double dip for extra safety - bottles only need about a minute to dry before you can dip em again. Super easy, they look cool, and lots of color choices!

I've got a half growler of a local amber. It tasted great in the store before my nose went bad.

My haul. Thanks HermTheGerm! I've only had the Hopslam out of everything you gave me. I'm not counting Sucks as I only had it as the original substitute, not in its new packaging! Super excited about BORIS and Jai Alai!

 

Nice. I still have to try some Hopslam. I hear its a great beer. Maybe next year I will make the trip into PA to grab some.
