I would say it needs to continue. Bourbon barrel aged beers are amazing especially when a brewery has a great BA program like Founders and Goose Island. They consistently put out top notch BA beers. To each their own.

I personally wouldn't have a clue who started it so I really don't have anything to add to this thread other than I certainly hope everyone continues the trend along with Oak Aged, or any barrel for that matter…mmmmm, so good…

I do enjoy kbs. GI bcs is a little past my limit for bourbon aged beers

as far as goodness-of-barrel-aging goes, just from my own experience, i think i'd rank it...

    1. firestone walker
    2. goose island
    3. founders

(all 3 barrel age so spectacularly well that i think other breweries would be better off sending these guys their beers rather than attempting to barrel age themselves)

haven't had the real alesmith, hair of the dog, or 50/50 hotshots though. have a bottle of eclipse grand cru that i'll get to soon.

honorable mentions: north coast (they charge you an arm and a leg for it, but they do it right), cambridge brewing company, hoppin frog.

As the first line says in the OP's post, he was inquiring about BA beers, not whiskey

Not even an honorable mention for The Bruery? They've kinda been killing it with their barrel program from the start.

I love a good BA beer. But I feel like there's been an influx recently of people who claim they "only like bourbon barrel beers," or something of that nature. I guess I just find that annoying.

I heard Dann Paquette was barrel aging beer here in America back in the 80's. I may have been drunk when I heard that though.

My guess would be the English - way before microbrew/craft beer in america.

If you say Horst Dornbusch three times, Ron Pattinson will appear in the thread to enlighten us....
