Had the real XII around Noon. Can't possibly mistake it for the Five Golden Rings which is not as good.

    Chris,

At around that time was when they figured out something was off with the XII, because it was actually 5GR. They stopped pouring it, and erased it off the board while they searched for the real XII. They found the real XII, tapped it and re-added to the board. You could tell pretty easily that the initial pour of "XII" was not authentic. I have to give props to BW for re-pouring glasses of the real XII for those of us who got the 5GR initially, well handled.

I think they only poured ~20 or so tastes of the 5 Golden Rings before someone handed one of the Matts their glass and asked about it. I overheard him say it tasted like "Some kind of fucked up shit", and initially thought time had just ravaged it, but pretty quickly grew suspicious and went back and checked. I had JUST gotten mine and I was thinking the same stuff. No sourness, no fruit, way too much spice.

The 5GR mess up made me laugh. I told Mike (BCGabbo) that 12 was an imperial wit with raspberries aged in a wine barrel. I hadn't even smelled my glass of "12." Some other friends kept saying stuff like "this isn't sour at all" or "this isn't really great." Right after that I smelled it and immediately knew it was 5GR...pretty damn funny. BW handled it well like Colin said and refilled glasses with the real BW 12...which is still absolutely amazing and the best sour The Bruery has ever done.

Huh. I thought they stayed open later than that for some reason. Guess that plan is out the window. Oh well.

Maybe I can swing over at 7:30 and be "that guy" who is there while they're trying to close.

Wife calls me while I'm on the 358: sorry, need you to pick up the kid (who lurchingbeast hates).
Still got in for a quick glass of XII, guess I'll enjoy the XIV with an episode of Seinfeld or something.

    Best laid plans :slight_frown:

I was secretly hoping that they'd have some bottles for sale today. Probably would have cost $50 or something along those lines, and I would still have bought one.

I think Alpine is doing the next one, if I'm remembering correctly from a conversation I had with Matt Bonney during last year's Sour Fest.

Could have been just rumors, but I remember hearing about Cascade for 14 around the time of the 13 release, and possibly RR for their 15th from one of the staff at Bottleworks. Who knows if it's true or not. I'd be really excited for Lost Abbey or Alpine

Spoke with both Matt's today and Lost Abbey is doing the 15th and Alpime will be doing a massive ipa for the 16th.

    Cheers all,
    Ryan

They found the only way to get rid of a keg of 5 Golden Rings. To "mislabel" it as XII.
