Okay, I'm sure plenty of you are already yawning, or wondering why anyone would be excited about this. But hey, my first 12 Horse took me by surprise, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Twelve packs will have 4x each of 12 Horse, Summer Brew, and Fyfe & Drum Lager. Going by the website description, the latter may not actually be "new" - sounds almost like they're old recipes that are being brought back. But either way, if this is anything like last year's Heritage Pack, expect those stubby bottles with the twist caps to run about $7-8 for a twelve pack.

Oh, and bonus for those who participated in a recent poll on here...it shows the calorie count for each brew.

Sorta doubt that Fyfe & Drum ever came in those "G" embossed US-style stubbies but Genesee played with the authenticity of the 12 Horse Ale, too, in the last Heritage Pack. Fyfe & Drum was always in embossed "select" style bottles from what I saw - I think they were green glass at one point. The "collector's" series mentioned below used to be found in what seemed like every NY state antique/junk shop, garage sale and flea market back in the '70's and '80's.

I think F&D started out as a Genesee attempt at a Premium/Superpremium beer but eventually was converted to their "light beer" entry when Miller Lite really took off in the early '70's. (Miller even sued them for "Lyte" claiming it was too close to Miller's "Lite").

So, are you willing to speculate on how authentic these beers will taste?

    Cheers!

"Authentic"? I don't really think that's what Genesee is trying for in these Heritage re-releases- more just nostalgia for an old label and a now obsolete style beer bottle. I know that even people who had fond memories (unlike me) of the '80's version of 12 Horse Ale were disappointed in that re-release. (See the comments at Lew Byrson's blog for more on that).

I mean, Fyfe & Drum's original drinkers would be in their '70's or older now, right? (I never had or even saw it in it's "non-light beer" incarnation.)

    Thanks for your input.

I tried Schlitz 60’s formula beer this past summer and I thought it was a ‘good’ beer for what it was (an American Adjunct Lager which had a bit more hops and a ‘better’ malt/adjunct ratio).

I was kind of wondering whether Fyfe & Drum Lager would be on the order of a Schlitz 60’s formula beer and worth a try for comparison purposes.

I really don’t want to purchase a 12 pack of beers of unknown quality. If I ever get a chance to try the Fyfe & Drum (maybe it will be available on draft?) I will drink it.

    Cheers!

After picking up the only 2 I could find in the fall of the original Heritage Pack release, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for these as they will be great for warmer weather sessioning. The fall release was great for the holidays for family & friends @ gatherings as opposed to BMC. I did fine the 12 Horse to be anti-climactic overall, really not too different from regular Genny save for the hint of ale to it. Plus, I am a sucker for the stubbies, straight up sucker...I keep trying Red Stripe because of the damn bottle always coming away thinking, "It's still the same shitty taste dumb ass, a cute bottle ain't changin' that..." Full Sail's Session Lager is a better option to the Stripe, though a bit overpriced for what it is...

A 12 pack of any of the 3 Session beers runs around $9.99 in California. What are the prices around you?

In NE & Central Ohio I have seen the Session 12 packs in the $11.99-$14.99 range. I'm sure it's cheaper on the west coast in contrast to being shipped east, I think it's decent enough and if it were priced @ $9.99 a 12, I'd get it over the others...but @ 11.99 there are better options than a solid session beer that's not terribly remarkable.

Has anyone tried these beers yet? I probably pick up the Heritage Pack later this week. Just curious for some first impressions.

Looks like Genesee is also bringing back it's Red Lager and by the proportions of the label, it's going to be in their stubby bottles, too. (Label from MyBeerBuzz).

This has been around for a few weeks in CNY, they all pretty much taste the same. That being said I brought a heritage pack to a party and watched as people put a sixer of craft in the beer bucket and pulled a genesee stubby to drink. First beer to disappear that night.

LMAO, that's great! The power of the stubby compels you, you hosers.
Will have to keep my eyes peeled for this...still on the lookout for the spring heritage pack, as the store I usually purchase Genny @ seems to be working thru the 11/2011 version, via their distributor...not surprising as I had to hip them to the fact that yes, they do indeed still make Genny Bock that I've been buying from a competitor 5 miles south of them. To which I was told very matter of fact that their distro rep was more of an "order taker" than a pitch man...very sad for a good store. BTW, as always you are a wealth of GOOD beer info & knowledge...

No matter any of the top rated beers I will ever get to try Genny will always hold a special place with me. Looking forward to the Red Lager.
