I have plans to plant some hop rhizomes here once the winter weather blows over here in Oklahoma.
In the back of my yard I have a garden area that I plan to mostly clear out and plant some hops. There are a couple of small trees that have grown, about six inches thick and about 12 feet high. Would it be safe to plant the hops at the base of these small trees and have the hops grow up the trees instead of growing on the usual string contraptions that people usually build?
Given the vitality of hops, I think this would be fine but my only concern is that the roots of the tree might cause a problem... Im no expert in gardening so I thought Id ask. Do yall think this would be alright?

Bad idea, IMHO: (1) Hops like sunlight. (2) They are a royal pain to pick when they grow up into a tree (I've experience on that front). (3) Competition between the tree and hops for sunlight and water is not good for either plant.

+1 Hops need full sun. And, hops will strangle your trees.

The tree was pruned and has no branched... It's just the main stalk that goes alll the way up, and the garden gets sun nearly all day long

And Im not concerned about the life of the tree...if yall think trees would not be good to grow on, Ill just cut the tree down

How invasive are hop bines and roots? I've been thinking about planting hops this year but the only place that gets good sun is against my house. I was thinking I could put some lattice work up against the exterior wall but do I have to be worried about the bines working their way into any gaps in my siding, or the roots forcing their way into my basement?

How much attention does the hop plant need once it's going? I can't grow in the back yard - way too much shade but I do have access to several hundred acres of land about 2 hours away. Full sun. Was thinking of planting some there but have concerns about animals eating them (deer mostly) and how often I need to attend to them. I don't mind the drive once a week but if I have to be on them daily - not gonna work.
