Somehow I've never been to Julio's (though I've called them several times, seem like great guys) and I really need to get there when and if Shelton Brothers imports this year's Saison. From what I've heard it seems like they really try to stock up as much as possible on Fantome products, though I could be wrong.

The problem with Julio's for the more limited bottles is it is way too popular these days. They get everything, but they don't get so much of it to compensate for the volume of beer geeks who shop there. Julio's might get 2 cases of something for 1000 beer geeks, whereas some other local store might get 1 case for 100 beer geeks. Craft Beer Cellar has the same problem.

It's a fantastic store, don't get me wrong, but it's not the best store for harder to get stuff unless you live/work right nearby and can run over as soon as word hits that something is available.

I'm not sure if Fantome Saison quite qualifies as "hard to get", but if you really want to make sure you get it I'd keep your ear to the ground at some other places.

I could see that, though a lot of places (when it comes to Shelton Brothers products) hardly seem to be falling under the radar anymore. Then again, I don't know what I don't know and could easily be missing out on places that stock up well and don't have people knocking down their doors like CBC and Julio's.

Though I have to disagree on the regular Saison - for well over a year it has been EXTREMELY hard to find around Boston. The only bottle I've found since mid-2011 was in Northampton at The Dirty Truth, and I have made dozens of phone calls, showed up everywhere, and checked countless Web sites to no avail.

I'm sure some of this is due to bad timing/luck, but I very consistently search for Fantome products.

On a side note: I have some other beer friends who tend to say the same thing, "Fantome is easy to find." But that's because they think of all Fantome products interchangeably (which drives me insane). Every time I ask, "where have you seen the regular Saison?" they always point me to a place that inevitably doesn't have it (they'll have the Noel, Hiver, or Printemps) and the staff will say they haven't had it in a long, long time.

Closest place that I know had it was DiCicco's, which is three hours away.

I'm not going to say that Granite has it on the shelves today, but they absolutely have had it on the shelf for the better part of the entire last year. And yes, I'm positive it's the real one. I sent a bottle purchased in mid-Dec out in a Christmas BIF so there is even photo evidence. I'm also positive I have seen it in numerous other spots in the last year - it's never really been a fast seller. Today, it may be finally sold out everywhere until the next batch drops, but I really just don't think you have been looking in the right spots if you couldn't find it anywhere closer that NY.

Hmmm, I drove down to Braintree and checked Granite maybe two months ago, and maybe two months before that, and there was nothing, just the Hiver and Printemps. But again, may have just been had luck/timing.

Looks like I'll just have to keep a closer eye on them!

You can say it. It's there now. And I can't think of a time in the 4+ years I've been going there that it hasn't been there. Not only that but when the usual 3-4 Fantomes dwindle down to the last few bottles or disappear there always seems to be plenty of the regular.

I must be pretty unlucky, because as mentioned, I went twice in the last six months and neither time it was there.

They must have had some out back and restocked recently.

Also - are we talking Granite Liquors or Granite Package Store?

(Or are they one in the same?)

    Thanks!

Granite in Weymouth on Middle St. NOT the Granite on Granite St in Braintree. I've seen the two names used interchangeably all the time, so go by address.

Thanks - looks like I did have the right one in mind that I've visited, must have just had horrible timing...ugh.

Hey all - went yesterday and picked up two regulars and a Boo. I was completely thinking of another place - Curtis. For some reason I thought it was Granite I had been to (not from the area) but was wrong.

Happy to find the Saison. The staff was great at Granite too, couldn't be more helpful. The only bummer was it was the 2011 Saison, not the 2012 (which I never found anywhere), but I heard the 2011 was better anyways so I'm happy.

    Thanks again!

Has anyone opened a Boo recently? It was one of the worst beers I've had in recent memory. Tasted like foliage and plastic.

Couldn't disagree more. I loved it - great smoky flavor with some of that signature funk. I've gone through three bottles. Maybe you had a bad bottle?

lol, Well we are talking about Fantome. I've had many bad bottles.

I had it in late December. It was so bad I couldn't even tell what they were going for.

    Bump...

Anyone seen or know of when this year's regular Saison is going to make it's way to the US? It's supposed to be a spring beer but I haven't heard anything about it yet, and we're closing in on June.

I've been checking my Twitter feed since really February and haven't seen or heard a peep about it.

You're not thinking of the 5 Sciences you and Yee had, are you? Or the 2011 "Sur Lie"?

I haven't seen anything mentioning this hitting stateside. I don't even know if Dany brewed a batch this year to be honest, considering the issues with so many of the other recent brews that have hit the states.
