So I'm going to Miami at the end of march (UMF :grinning:) and wanted to know what I should be on the lookout for. I know I'll be looking for Cigar City, what in particular? I havent had a thing by them yet.
Anything else down there I probably don't get in Chicago?

I know when I go down to FL, or friends there come up, I make sure I get Bell's Two Hearted and anything from Summit that is available down there. If you go to seekabrew.com and click on Florida on the map and then at upper right select your state as the state to compare too, you will get a list of breweries that are only in FL in the left hand column. Doing that myself, some that stick out to me are: Duck-Rabbit, Full Sail, Kona, Sweetwater, Terrapin and Weyerbacher.

Look for a Total Wine superstore down there, looks like two in Miami, one in Pinecreast section and one in North Miami. I've been to the one in Naples Fl and was like a kid in a candy store. They have hundreds of beers and a make your own six pack options.

Not much being released now with Huna day around the corner. You will most likely find the regular cans. I have seen a few 750s on shelves, but very few. Cubano espresso should be down soon, but that will go very quick and most likely be gone by the time you get down here. Best of luck.

If you're looking for Cigar City, Jai Alai IPA is great, I prefer their White Oak aged Jai Alai, less hoppiness but way more oak-aged flavor

The largest local selection of CCB is probably Stop n Shop on Ponce de Leon.

Miami isn't really Funky Buddha Territory.

If you are looking to take bottles or cans home, anything by Cigar City is excellent, also Saint Somewhere Brewery, Native, Holy Mackerel, etc.

There are a couple of newer breweries in South Florida that haven't started bottling yet, but you may find them on tap around town: Miami Brewing Co, Due South, and Tequesta. Funky Buddha is up in Boca Raton, but that's like an hour drive from downtown Miami where the UMF is going on. Enjoy your stay!

Well, maybe 'area' is a loose description. I saw everyone suggesting CCB, which is pretty far away, if we're talking pints in the bar itself. But yeah, I'd even be willing to drive an hour to Funky, I'm that big of a fan.

Cigar City (as others have mentioned) but there are also a lot of really good local breweries in FL if you plan on driving through instead of flying. Tallahassee has a great brewery and bottle shop called Proof and in the Tampa Bay area, Dunedin Brewery has a lot of really good offerings. Sweetwater (out of Atlanta, GA) and Terrapin are also really easy to come by and you can usually get it for pretty cheap.

I'm visiting my parents on Marco Island tomorrow and am definitely asking my father to stop at TW Naples on the way home from the airport. "Jesus, you need to go to special stores for your beer now?" If you knew him you'd recognize that as a hilariously accurate impersonation of what he'll say.

Yeah, maybe I made the incorrect assumption that OP was driving down. If flying down, maybe a different story.

I am actually driving, but with a car full of nonBAs who might not appreciate stopping so much, but suggestions still welcome and appreciated

I bought a sixer of Jai Alai at Wal Mart yesterday in Tampa for 9.77. It was brewed on Feb 11th. Good luck!

I don't know if this is proper, but I am going to cut and paste a review of JA posted on BA yesterday. It's a hoot.

Jai Alai IPA - Cigar City Brewing - Tampa, FL - BeerAdvocate

this is nothing special its just average hardly any hop flavor no fruits characters
could barely taste the hops should be labeled a pale ale not a IPA
it was like drinking bitter water, with no fruit flavors as you get in a good IPA like Pliny or hopslam
nothing special i won't have a 2nd i will stick to good beer its not brewed in florida

Hell, I'm already talking to the wife about how, when the new Funky brewery opens, and kegs are sold, I'm discussing driving down from upstate S.C., just to get the beer. Absolutely fantastic stuff.

The new brewery should be open soon (April is the last I heard) and it will be in Oakland Park, which is near Fort Lauderdale, about 15 minutes south of Boca Raton and that much closer to Miami. I work practically down the street so I plan to schedule happy hours there
