Sunday, April 8, 2012 4:00pm - 7:00pm at the Valley Tap House, 14889 Florence Trail, Apple Valley, MN 55124

First one in, last one out, sweltering in the summer, freezing in the winter. Years of toiling and boiling have turned our brewer Todd into a cynical, surly, bitter brewer. But you can get bitter without all the fuss. Join us for the Bitter Brewer Release Party!

A little ahead of schedule this year? Thought Bitter Brewer was usually a May release?

Happy to see it though. Probably my favorite Surly seasonal.

Is there a way to pick a favorite Surly? Furious still is, only because it never lets you down
Bitter is just one of a few sitting in close second.

What's the big hype behind cans of Surly? Every one I've tried had that familiar metallic taste. I don't know how you guys can drink out of cans, even poured in a glass.

Where do you suppose the metal taste is coming from? The product does not touch metal in anyway with the interior coating, and cans protect the beer from light far better than any other packaging.

I agree, no surprise you're seeing other breweries join in the can movement, if it was hurting the quality of the beer you wouldn't see a brewery like SN go from bottles to cans. I've never tasted a metal flavor to Surly and I'll also always pour it into a glass (unless I can't help myself for getting every last drop of Abrasive out of every nook of the can).

That metal taste is coming from his mind.

I think the metal is coming from all the Metal that Todd and the guys listen to while brewing the beer.

    Down, homers, down!

Although sir yokken, the homers are correct. Maybe a little splashes against the lip of the can while you're pouring it, otherwise, pretty close to drinking out of a glass. Never had an metallic taste in hundreds of Surly cans...I'll wager that if you try a blind tasting you'll discover the same.

Perhaps I do need to try a blind test. I'm fully aware it could just be me thinking glass is better than cans, but I think no matter the situation I will always prefer glass over aluminum.

Don't know why, but I am on a craft can kick lately. SNPA and Torpedo, Avery IPA, Surly's (as always)...Also, I am hoping for big things out of Indeed Brewing, and they will also be canning.
