Looking to run my first BIF! I have been doing a lot of 12-bottle styro shipper trades lately and they are great for many reasons... you get a HUGE box of goodies, they are easy to pack, and they are great to send off to the next lucky person. So, I'm thinking we can get 5-10 folks (or more?) that can each send a 12-bottle styro shipper to one another (Baker's dozen minus 1). The target for each person will be the person that has the bithday closest to yours (after yours). Rules for each box will be:

    4 750's (min)
    4 Bombers (min)
4 (whatever you choose... 12 oz, 22 oz, 750 ml, swag, whatever!)

    That's it, simple!

Obviously, trying to hit wants would be strongly encouraged and sendig bottles accessible to the target would be highly discouraged. Boxes should NOT contain "off the shelf" beers and should be packed full of GREAT bottles that you would love to receive. I want this to be like Xmas for everyone involved, LOL!

If we can make it happen, great! If not, no harm done. Cheers!

    Sam

Ps- Shipping window will be the 2nd half of April.

Define "off the shelf". Like the birthday thing

Not a strict definition, but basically nothing that sits on the shelf for more than a month.

Also, beers will have to have a 93 minimum rating, with at least 30 reviews. If this happens, I want people to get GOOD boxes! If you are not in it to hook someone up with a great box, please don't sign up!

Sounds interesting. Let me check my cellar and see if i have enough that qualifies.

So all x beers have to be rated 93 or higher?

Yes, looking for some NICE boxes! I have also recieved some questions about the requirement of a 12 bottle shipper. This problem could be solved one of two ways:

    1) Have 1 person begin the process by sending out to another, who would return send to another and so on...

    2) Or for a faster approach, just simply not require a styro shipper, which I would be fine with if all agree

Have several interested people so far, just message me with questions!

    I'm interested as well.

    A few things to to keep in mind;
In a BIF lIke this, I'd spend a good amount of effort vetting those participants with little trading history.
Also, I like the idea of matching targets by birthday, but it would make sense to ensure there is at least a good bit of geographic distance between targets.

I'd like to get involved as well. Haven't yet done any BIF's but I would really like to. I have around 20 beer trades under my belt.

People will absolutely be vetted for trading history, and I will check all references personally. Geographic distance will also be taken into consideration, and I will not have someone send a box 100 miles to another BA, haha. Looks like we have around 4 people so far, please BM me with confirmation that you are participating and with a list of 10 references. Cheers!

So this is basically a 12-bottle "light whale" BIF... that's a lot...

Honestly, with that 93 restriction, this is going to be extremely difficult to compile. Discounting retired oddballs/one-offs/unobtainables (i.e. Wooden Hell), I think there's only maybe 200 beers or so on the site that meet that, and a good half of them are clear "off the shelf" stuff. Another quarter of them are flat out tiny bottle counts that very few would have (like a BA Dark Lord)... it really doesn't leave much room for options. I think we'd end up with an awful lot of KBS, Parabola, BCBS, etc type of stuff swapping hands.

A suggestion would maybe be to do 4-6 bottles in that category, and then let the rest be whatever. Or, maybe lower the rating min to 90. But - your BIF - your rules!

Yeah I was interested in this BIF but was having troubles trying to figure out if i had 12 bottles that all rank 93+ that i would be willing to part with. Also didn't the op say bombers 22oz of 750ml?

Ok, so it seems like many have expressed the concern of so many bottles with such a high rating. It would certainly take a lot of ammo, which was sort of the idea but I am certainly open to changing the parameters of the BIF in order to make it more accessible. It sounds like 6 bottles with a rating of 93 or higher would be more suitable. So with that in mind, let's try these rules and see where it goes:

    1) 6 bottles minimum of 93 rating or higher (4 of which must be large bottle format-bomber/750)
    2) 6 remaining bottles/items should have a rating of 89 or higher (3 of which should be large bottle format)
    3) No bottles should be "off the shelf" - use your judgment on this one... It doesn't need to be a brewery only release but there shouldn't be bottle for purchase hanging around very long
    4) Swag is perfectly acceptable to replace bottles other than the large format bottles.
    5) Max will still be 12 bottles/items total.

Let me know what you think, cheers!
