My son is going to be in Bay View MI this summer (performing in an opera). We're going to trek there from MN. I have been poring over maps of our route, but I'll be danged if I can find any breweries a.) along the route (Hi. 29 through WI), or b.) around Bay View itself (which seems to be pretty isolated and desolate). I'm just looking at some place to stop along the way, to enjoy some wonderful WI or MI brews. Any thoughts, my fellow BAs?

Here is the Michigan-based beer guide with a brewery listing and a map. Petoskey Brewing is a good, new brewery and is close to Bay View just north of town on M-119, and Beard's is in downtown Petoskey, also a new brewery that has some tinkering to do with their beers (in my opinion, but my visit was last Fall). Check the pages near the end of the online Beer Guide for a status update of new breweries soon to open. I think I recall something about one that is supposed to open in Harbor Springs soon. There are several very good breweries in Traverse City too, and are well worth a day or two to visit them all.

    Enjoy your visit to Michigan.

Tried two Beards brews at WBF and they were both solid beers. Nothing spectacular, but if you're in the area, I'd say its worth a stop. The brewer and owners seemed like good people.

How are you travelling from MN to Bay View MI? Are you taking the fairy across Lake Michigan and taking route 29 through WI to get there?

If you take 29 through Wausau, there is a Great Dane brewpub and Red Eye Brewing. Both solid beer options, and great for food as well.

Short's brewpub in Bellaire (not the production facility in Elk Rapids), and the breweries in Traverse City are worth a side trip.

We're driving from the Twin Cities to Bay View, MI.

Mapquest says to take 94 to 29 to Green Bay, then go north on 41 to M-35 (North Shore Drive) to US-2, then loop back down to Bay View via I-75 S and 31-S.

Again, many thanks for the suggestions folks!

If you hit Green Bay - I can suggest Titletown Brewing. Good beer, great food. PB&B burger being my favorite.

Can't comment on Hinterland - their food prices are astronomical and I've never cared for their beers so I don't partake.

I was thinking maybe hiway 8 would be better but 29 is 4 lane whereas 8 is 2 lane all they way. 29 has construction right now by the interchange in Green bay to 41 but you won't lose much if any time. 2 is a pretty drive.
