Thanks to VikeMan for the totally entertaining sequence of threads that has resulted in the IPA by BA committee!

So I was wondering how many here on BA are going to actually brew this bad boy? Thus the poll. I know that AlCaponeJr has already brewed it (with one minor change). Are you going to follow it straight or tweak it at all? I'd be interested in remarks along these lines.

I am in the middle of getting my yeast starter going for this beer, which I plan to brew on Thursday. I am going to follow the recipe very closely, although I might start out with 1 oz of Magnum (just can't help myself). Otherwise, I think I'm going to follow it to the letter. OK, I might ferment a bit cooler, also.

    Thoughts?

It is close to an IPA recipe I would brew, but not exactly what I want.

I drink ALOT of IPA and obsessively tweak my own concept recipes-- no room in my OCD line up for this one.

It will be a great beer as written though!

My yeast starter is being chilled, getting ready to brew Wednesday morning. My idea is to do the exact recipe. Sure, there may be some tweaks that could be thrown in, but I see no glaring weakness. I believe this may just be a great beer.

I'm going to brew this on the weekend, but I'll be pitching wyeast 1968 slurry instead of chico.

I didn't see an option for "ludicrous recipe, but I will give it a try anyway"

I'll be brewing it eventualy. Might lose the Magnum since i don't have any and replace with cloumbus or centennial but other than that I'll use the recipe as is.

Yes, already brewed! The only change was using bravo for magnum because I left the magnum at home by accident, and it was a near 60 mile round trip to go back for it. Otherwise it was to the letter. Fermentation temp for me is 64-66 so I am just leaving it at that (close enough is good enough).

Write in: Wait to hear how AlCaponeJunior's turns out and then decide what to do.

    Al's brewing it?

    Possibilities:

    BLECH IPA
    Drainpour IPA
My dog wouldn't pee in that spot in the yard anymore after I dumped the whole five gallons IPA

I'm gonna brew it as is, because thats how we, the BA homebrewers voted it to be. Thats the whole point of the entire process.

If you change it, you may as well have made up your own recipe, IMO. I don't see the point of following a vote, yet doing what you wanted anyways.

I could see using leaf and pellet, and maybe missing your mash temp by a degree or two.. Doign your whirlpool differently than others and dry hopping differently due to your system, but past that, adding or subbing, or removing would make it a different beer.

I'll be doing mine with leaf hops only.

I'm going to brew it as is. Will be my first all grain attempt also. Looking at Easter weekend right now.

You forgot the too much crystal malt option...

Went with "might" because it won't be for at least a month and a half and some other crap looms on the horizon that could influence when I brew after that. So I want to brew it and probably would stay very close the original recipe; usually, I just let myself get inspired by a recipe and tweak it, but this time it feels right to try to stay true.

I'm going to brew it, but I think it is closer to a trainwreck recipe than a awesome recipe. I don't think anyone would have wrote out this recipe if asked for an "awesome" IPA recipe. But what the hell, it might actually be awesome  I'm also thinking I will do an IPA using the same hops, but different schedule and a slightly different malt bill that I think will be a more awesome IPA

I'm brewing the recipe as is. Vikeman did way too much work not too, and I think the awesome thing about the project was to hear about how different everybody's beer ends up even though the same recipe was used.

I hope to brew it and I won't make any changes if I do.

I issue is that I that I have five vials of assorted ECY and some WL that I need to use.

    And good job to VikeDeMan.

Good points, but it was the Average American IPA project. You'll have to wait until next time for the Awesome American IPA project.

I agree that the hop schedule, and the grain/mash temp isn't something I'd always shoot for, but.. It's a fun project.

I'll be brewing it as is but I may have to lose the bittering addition completely since I have high AA Cascades in my freezer.
