Just moved here from CA and at most of the top beer bars, people will frequently bring in bottles simply to share with staff, a friend or two and/or new friends made at the moment at the bar. Not talking about 2 or 3 guys sharing a bottle and pouring a taster just for the bartender, but a proper share of about 6 to 8 few ounce pours.

I have no idea if there are laws about this in MN (actually, I have no idea if there were any in CA, either) or how common this may be around here. Are there any bars around the Twin Cities where this commonly takes place or that I won't get weird looks if I bring something in?

Also, if maybe this isn't totally above board in MN, but there are places that still allow this, you can beer mail me directly instead of posting such places to the thread.

I'm pretty sure New Bohemia in NE Minneapolis does a bottle share every Sunday but I'm not sure about anywhere else.

Muddy Waters will charge a 5 dollar corking fee for beer, I've shared a few bottles there.

I was thinking of proposing a Sundays and sours share there soon. Bring a single sour, eat breakfast, hang out, everybody is still sober enough to go about their day and has some tasty beers. Maybe the 31st?

Ugh, I forgot about the pagan rituals. Another weekend I guess.

Although I bet they will be empty...

Maybe some hasenpfeffer made with a sour ale instead of wine, would be in order.

I've been going to the New Bohemia bottle share regularly. It's run by a BA that goes by the handle underbellyales and he's also from CA. It's a great time and we've cracked beers from Alesmith, FFF, Firestone, Surly, Pelican, Toppling Goliath, Russian River, Founders, Lost Abbey, etc. There is a corkage fee but if you order food they'll waive it. Come on down!

And the requirement to attend is at least 22 ounces of out of state, cellared, or rare beer.

that is pretty standard etiquette for a bottle share/tasting.

Fair enough, that's what I thought. On the other hand it reads as though someone might say to someone else "that beer from this state/isn't rare/is fresh. I'm not sharing with you." Which could be read as a joke about "sharing", but I guess it isn't.

Agreed. I read as "Please don't show up. If you do, you better have a bottle I approve of."

really, I think the "regulations" is too keep it fair, most all of us like to share, and if someone is new and doesn't have anything to crazy people are gonna share.(before I started trading I fell into this category at tastings) but it also maintains a level of quality. if you bring something really cool that you traded towards and someone shows up with something they just found on the shelf how would you feel?

If somebody brought a Fat Tire bomber in good faith they probably didn't know better. There should be better things to say than "go away."

Obviously "hey look at Ryan trying to get my Cantillon for some Fat Tire haha" is not what I meant.
