I have been picking up Abrasive for some fellow BA's and have noticed the latest batch that several liquor stores said they have just received have no canning dates. Has anyone else noticed this?

    Cheers!

Last weeks came in with no dates, this weeks delivery had them. The cardboard flats will have the dates stamped if the cans don't.

Todd has voiced his disdain for their date printer... sounds like it's pretty temperamental.

Some butthurt BA's accused liquor stores of scrubbing off the dates but Todd was kind enough to assure everyone that it misprints from time to time. I'd take their word for it - cheers bud!

Drinking a can dated 3/4/13 right now, so I know there are still fresh cans out there.

3/4/13 was the very last canning for the year.

3/4/13 cans should be fresh enough to last me through next year's Abrasive season. After all, 132-day-old Abrasive tastes just like 93-day-old Pliny, which tastes just like 180-day-old Heady, which tastes just like...

    But seriously,

Who doesn't like fresh hops but are you serious? For this style of beer it will be amazing consumption for the next 3 months. It's akin to a trading company in the 19th century receiving their shipment from England and shouting "send it back! They have not dated it!" While I'm sure the Surly crew appreciates such enthusiasm for fresh beer I have a feeling they would tell anyone questioning dates to trade the beer off. I'm sure you won't have any problems with that bc many people would gladly take it. Maybe they can start using the born on date while they are at it.

^^^^ For the price of Abrasive - people, understandably, want (and deserve) the freshest they can get.

Totally agree with you. I would argue perception plays a great deal with this. I'd be curious to see at what rate people could identify the fresher Abrasive. The difference would be negligible. For that matter it would be fun to blind taste some of the forementioned beers (Pliny, ect) and see how many could be correctly identified.

I agree, Pliny falls off pretty fast. Easy to tell an old Pliny from a fresh on. Same with Hopslam, Illumination, etc. If I'm are going to pay a premium for these DIPAs, I'd like to enjoy them as fresh as possible. No harm in that.

Any 3/4 Abrasive around still? I gave away every last can of mine at DLD this past weekend and wouldn't mind picking up a few more packs.

The 3/4 Abrasive is still drinking amazingly. Wish I could make the trip up and score some more too!
