But maybe it is an Öttinger Urtyp beer? According to mjtierney2, it sounds like that particular beer isn’t torturous:

“Thus my official review: 2.5/5, Not Overpoweringly Terrible.”

    Prost!

I would like to note that I wasn't drinking it through a gas-mask, I had it in its proper glassware. That's probably worth an extra half point.

I can't tell by the label. My aquaintance with Öttinger is only a very flimsy one when I run through the iles of the beer store through canyons of Fernsehbier crates with my eyes cast down lest the evil of mass produced swill might burn out my retina.

    I think not :stuck_out_tongue:

It's tomorrow + 3 on this side of the Atlantic -- any report? Or did I miss a thread?

You don't know the depth of my patience -- after all, I was a home-brewer! :grinning:

    (must be a helluva hangover!)

Good reports take a while and after having set quite a standard he's probably trying to be extra thorough with this one. Plus, he needed time to yell at me in the other thread :stuck_out_tongue: Sorry if that prolonged the agony of waiting for you :grinning:

I am not burdened by standards, thankfully. Here is my rushed review and accompanying un-adjusted photo of my local brewpub's Dopplebock Dunkel:

Went to the Kulturbrauerei to notice they had a new seasonal - the Dopplebock Dunkel. I stopped in to check it out. The barman seemed particularly proud of this one and poured me a sample ("Sieben comma fünf!" he said with a wink). It indeed looked nice and tasted nice. Since I had already purchased a bottle, the charge was only €3,90. They add another €3,00 if you're buying your first bottle (i.e., not returning one). €3,90 for one liter is still a bit high by German (retail) standards, but not bad so what the heck.

Poured into my 400 ml Schlenkerla Dopplebock tulip. Looks, smells and tastes a lot like the Andechser, and that is a compliment indeed. I definitely think they were aiming for the Andechs flavor profile when they brewed this up. For the most part, they met their mark. There is something that stays behind on the finish, though...a light bit of lingering unpleasantness that is hard to put a finger on. With it being 7.5% I decided to only drink half of the bottle and to keep one serving for a later date, either tonight or tomorrow. Not a bad beer, though, as is the case with many of their seasonals that I have tried.

    3.75/5

By mudding me with false agony? :grimacing:

Seriously, you ought to be happy that I'm interested in other beers in Munich. :grinning:

I sincerely pictured you sitting at your computer, breath held in anticipation and hectically hammering F5

What's this "Munich" you talk about ?

You know - the place where all of Germany's good beer is made.

Thanks for being my pit bull. Go get him! And show no mercy. :grimacing: And yes, somehow I enjoy our "discussion" in the other thread too much. I just had a student cancel on me, so I'm getting paid to write on BA! However, since this free time was totally unplanned, I didn't bring my notes of BKL with me. But I'm getting the opportunity to do more research on some of the websites of beer I drank there.
