Where is the GABC? Because if it's in Bavaria, you won't sell the Alt or the Kölsch.

Maybe GABC should open a Koelsch brewery in nearby Duesseldorf and an Alt brewery in Koeln first to gauge demand, and then expand to Bavaria from there?

Thinking outside the box! You da man!!

    Prost!

P.S. When I win the Powerball I will definitely invest in your beer company! You won't even hve to pay be royalties for using the name GABC!

Not sure if you are being tongue-in-cheek here or not, but it is theoretically not allowed to brew something named an Altbier in Köln or a Kölsch in Düsseldorf. I believe they can call it "nach Kölsch/Altbier Art", but I guarantee that this would not go over well.

I can imagine that's the explanation the people would be providing as they proceeded to literally kick GABC's a$$ out of town... (In other words, yes, I was being facetious. In other other words, Jack's lottery winnings would be much better spent on a simple trip to Franconia!)

Guys, what’s up with all of the Negative Waves!?!

You are sounding like a bunch of German beer drinkers!

    Prost!

If you think we're a tough crowd, wait until GABC Altbierbrauerei's opening day in Cologne.

Well, it was asked in the Original Post: “Is a rebellion needed to shake things up enough so that change can happen?”

I guess I am a rebellion guy. Is there anybody else out there with me? C’mon, grow a pair and stop playing croquet! And I don’t want to hear any nonsense that all of the adventurous Germans (and Bavarians) have emigrated to America.

How can anybody argue that providing good, non-boring beer selections to the German drinkers is a bad idea? Having a choice has just gotta be better. Like the commercial says: more is better! We want more!!

    Prost!

Those brewers who are involved in what might be called a renaissance are, in a seemingly uniquely German way, being quite rebellious. And it's there that if there is to ever be a rebellion will start. The revolution will not be televised.

I'll also add, something Herrburgess and I have discussed briefly, Mahrs has begun to shift their identity towards a younger crowd and metal music. Do they do it by changing everything? Nope. They have just begun to have it in the hands of bands they like while keeping their biergarten traditional. Damn I miss that place. But this sort of shift is huge. It signals the beginning of something major.

I think more than a few people would argue that German beer isn't boring.

Fair enough. As you know (and have pointed out) I am not a German (or a German resident). My statements of “boring” is based upon others comments. It is not my intent to ‘throw Tony under the bus’ but he emphatically stated:

“German beer in general is boring (irregardless of quality) …”

So, I will humbly recognize that I have been educated in that there are folks who reside in Germany who have differing opinions on this matter.

    Thank you for your post.

    Prost!

Boddhitree will be the first person I interview for the Meister Brauer opening at the GABC, but I respectfully disagree with him on this point.

If settling in at a simple wooden table under the shade of chestnut trees with a simple Kellerbier (or 6) served in a simple ceramic mug and served by gravity from a simple wooden keg is boring, then I'm more than happy to remain "bored" for the rest of my days.

Jack, shit or get off the pot. Take a little vacation in Bamberg and then report back with whether or not you find them boring. When I first got there, I thought so. But like herrburgess said, somehow the setting makes it click in your brain stem and then you are never the same again.

So, how long am I supposed to stay there!?!

Thanks so much for your helpful advice.

    Cheers!
