Is it just me or is distribution picking up big time

I'm a former east coaster living in California and I've noticed that there are less and less beers I can't get these days. I still drink copious amounts of nug nectar and finest kind when I'm back visiting but it seems like with the exception of the newest and smallest, our shelves are looking pretty similiar. Is this more of a "major cities " thing or is everyone noticing this?

In Northern California, I have noticed a sudden influx of beers from Southern California breweries that weren't previously distributed north. It's been nice to try beers from breweries that I've been hearing about for awhile.

It would be nice of the reverse were true.

Breweries who make great beer in 6 packs don't expand distribution much, because people are repeat buying their beers all the time.

Breweries who make great beer in higher priced bombers seem to expand coast to coast within a matter of a couple of years. People mostly just tick their beers then move on to their old favorite, good priced, standbys.

One thing I have noticed as of late, as least in my neck of the woods, are more styles coming from the same brewer. It used to be a Colorado or California brewer would send their standard varieties, but as of late there are up twice as many types are offered as they had previously.

Demand it growing for craft beers, and breweries are expanding. If a brewery thinks it has its local fan base adequately supplied then they will expand distribution to go along with the brewery expansion. It's a good thing. :grinning:

I agree. Suddenly, Ballast Point is getting all of their beers out to NY, same with FW, Stone, and Green Flash.

im here in el paso texas, 5 years ago we didnt have a 1/4 of the beers we have now. craft beers have exploded here and our local distributers have invested heavily in ourchasing the rights to all sorts of goodies. theres still a ton of stuff i wish we had down here but i can honestly say we have a pretty solid selection. its limited and you have to know where the honey holes are in town but its nice. not yet on any comparison with the east coast but hopefully one day we will get there.

I'm sure I recall whathisface English guy at FW saying they would never send beers long distances.

Having said that a handful of kegs turned up here in London not that long ago.

I completely agree with this. Now, if we could only get Bell's & Three Floyds to distribute here in Western NY, all would be right in the world.

Here in Florida, our distribution now is miles ahead of what it was just three years ago. I mean, we're getting FAT HEAD'S this month. In FLORIDA.

I feel like I find a new brewery distributing to Philly each week.

We're supposed to be getting Bell's in upstate NY within the next year, according to an article that was posted here a while back. I won't hold my breath for Three Floyds though.

Yep. Just noticed Two Brothers on my latest trip to Wegman's. It's become more and more difficult to decide what to pick up each time I go. First world problems.

Distribution to Philly is SICK! The two times I walk into a craft beer store there I see Supplication and then Barrel Aged Bigfoot. I feel so spoiled...and I love it. Definitely feel pretty lucky to live less than two hours from Philly.

Three Floyds recently stated on their facebook that they "have no plans of expanding distribution" now or in the future.

How does Philly get Russian River but Chicago doesn't? It blows my mind

"The world may never know." I don't know man. Not sure how/why RR decided to distribute to Philly and nowhere else. Maybe they drew cities from a hat or something...who knows lol.
