“I wasn't crapping on your idea, I just didn't think it would be accepted by the typical German beer consumer for the reasons I outlined.” Well, thinking it won’t be accepted (i.e., GABC will fail as a business) sounds like crap to me. Until I give the rights of the name GABC to Scott this business is my ‘baby’.

“That's not to say I personally would or would not enjoy the beers.” Well, at this point it appears that GABC will have three customers: you, bodditree and PancakeMcWaffles. It will be very difficult for GABC to succeed with only three customers.

    Prost!

I can't read German but I am guessing somewhere in that verbiage is: "Hey, you are allowed to dry hop now."

I am glad to hear that; the no dry hopping rule was a stupid rule.

    Prost!

If you are going to be investing your lottery winnings, you deserve to know some of the potential weaknesses of the business plan.

I will do my best to drink all we brew.
It just shows how stupid and arbitrary the RHG is.

Can we at least move GABC to Berlin? Whether we're successful or not, at least I'll get to live in Berlin.

Their IPA tasted like they had read a style description of an IPA but never tasted one. Their porter that I had, had the mouthfeel of a schwarzbier, crisp and almost prickly carbonation. Horrible, horrible beers and they were expensive too!

Tony, throwing ad hominems does not make your opinion any more valid. You know where I work and granted, I see society from a rather unique perspective because of that but knowing how many people REALLY are on government assistance and how they actually live (or exist rather) is part of my job. Granted, being on social security or other (equally meager) payments in Germany is a Hell of a lot better than in many many other places but that still doesn't make my point "nonsense".

A better (or rather, more convenient future) for Tony does not necessarily mean it's a better future for you, me, Steve, Bavarian beer or humanity as a whole. Or does it ?

Moninger and Hoepfner are alright, but in my opinion they have a tad more flavour, and they're brewed locally, so that's a plus compared to Fernsehbiere...
If you ever come to Karlsruhe you should try "Vogelbräu", they're the best brewery in and around Karlsruhe in my opinion, their Pils would be heaven for hopheads :grinning:

    Cheers

Why? Seriously, Why must it be a zero-sum game? Why must a benefit for others be a loss for you? I don't get it. I mean, why does an addition to consumer offerings diminish the other stuff? Please help me understand this.

I agree that there are lots of people on public assistance, and you see a lot of them. And if it offended you, I'm sorry. For those people cheap beer is what they can afford, but that still doesn't mean you can generalize and say basically it applies to all Germans. This country is quite rich and manages to distribute it's wealth somewhat better than the US does. I still think there's a market out there for those who want "piss-cheap" beer and also for those who are willing to pay something extra for quality and variety. After all, how do all these "Bio-markets" survive? They show that this business model is possible in Germany. Yes, there are lots of curmudgeons in Germany who won't want to drink anything new, but that's just like in the USA with people who refuse to drink anything but BMC, but that doesn't mean the other end of the spectrum doesn't exist.

You ever see what happens when an non-native species is introduced to a foreign environment?

Quick request that you may have already thought of, but can the BKL! review be a different thread? It sounds like that deserves its own conversation.

Here is a quote from Andreas Seufert, the owner/brewer of Pax Bräu. He wrote it on Facebook. I took the liberty of running it through Google Translator and tweaking it to refine the translation to reflect what I believe he really meant. It's interesting and enlightening. It also explains why I love his philosophy and business model. I bolded the parts I thought were particularly interesting. Here he is at BKL:

I was already thinking of putting it either in the Craft Beer thread or the thread concerning the festivals that's already on BA.

Awesome quote, thank you for sharing. I was worried it was going to be a "German beers are boring, IPA's are where we need to go" but he went somewhere else altogether. Smoked IPA, omg.

    ISO: Cissy.

Please show him some love and LIKE Pax Bräu on FB! The only way to get the Sissy is with the Beer Abo, or the 12 month subscription of 2 1L bottles every month from his beer calender. Wasn't cheap either. 285€ for 12 months, 30% is postage I'm sure. Otherwise, write him either on his website or on the FB page. I'm not 100% sure he speaks English, but I think he must due to his work in Asia and Russia. Also, I sent him a private message in FB informing him that I translated (it took over an hour, folks, and all got so far is 2 likes?!>?!) and posted it here on BA. So far, he hasn't responded, but I also invited him to drop by BA's German forum and add his contribution if would like to. I keep y'all up to date what happens.

“That's why the the smoked malt comes through in the finish - and so: sassy, earthy, unusual and "rock'n roll-like". Isn't that cool.”

    Yes, that sounds real cool!

Tony, thank you so much for making the effort for the translation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Prost!

P.S. I haven’t ‘heard’ the word “sassy” is quite some time. I love it!!!!!!!

Sassy was Google Translator's suggestion, but it's not a good one. The German word was frech, which can also be translated as "fresh," as... "don't get fresh with me, son!" Other possible translations: "cheeky, bold, insolent, brash, defiant, brazen, audacious." Get the idea?

Thanks Jack for the praise and thanks for the critique of my translating. I took Google Translators version and almost had to completely rework it.

    Done.

The €285 Bier Abo, and the Cissy, will have to wait until such a time as die Frau would not kill me for dropping €285 on 24 liters of beer (and you're complaining about a €100 train ticket to Bamberg!? Which is really only €50?!).

If he doesn't speak English I don't think he'll be allowed to post here, will he? I think these boards are English language only. In any event, I wish him luck and perhaps one day I'll be able to sneak off to Oberelsbach and drop in for a beer. As long as the train ticket isn't too expensive. :stuck_out_tongue:
