Question about Firkin Fest at Happy Gnome. I just saw what the price is for this event and this is pretty steep for this type of event (using the Pizza Port Real Ale fest as a point of comparison). Their site doesn't say what is included for that price, not even the beer. I have to presume that at that price it is at least an all you can drink event. And I am sure that there are a lot of people who can drink $50 worth of cask ale, but that is really a lot more than most people would drink. So does that price include a shirt/glass and/or anything else like that?

And I will probably be at the Happy Gnome tonight and yes, I know that I can ask them myself, but I wanted to throw this out in a thread, so in case this $50 just covers beer, maybe people who have gone in the past can expand on this (based on their experience) of just how worthwhile this is for $50. Hell, I was just at Town Hall for happy hour having pint cask pours of Masala Mama for $4 and I was charred after three. I just don't know how many casks at this event are likely to surpass Masala Mama on cask. Are they going to be mainly just cask versions of the regular beers or are these specially made casks of some barrel aged versions, special hop added versions, etc.? What did they have before?

Usually a wide variety of one-off casks with interesting ingredients, mixed in with casks of regular offerings. There is some discussion of offerings from past years in the existing thread about firkin fest. This is the first year it has been $50, i think it was $35 last year? Unless something changed, the cost includes unlimited samples and you keep the tasting glass. They expanded it from 4 to 6 hours this year, but i'm not sure that justifies the cost increase. I think the extra $ is simply due to the ever-expanding popularity of tasting events. I will still be attending this year, my personal opinion is that it is worth it to taste some of the interesting options, but we shall see if that holds true...

Thanks! I didn't realize that there was already a thread for the fest. I'll check it out, as it probably has some good info over there.

Pretty positive it was $50 last year. 2011 was $35. The reason I think it was $50 last year was because there was a ton of people complaining about the price increase. In my opinion, it is worth the price if you drink enough.

Where is this firkin thread you speak of?

I know that everybody is bitching about the $50 cost for Firkin Fest (including myself), but here is a link to get it for $25 that was just posted in a different thread:

Portable toilets. I sure hope that they sell all the remaining tickets at that $25 price! :grimacing:

That is awesome! So people around here refer to them by the name of the local manufacturer that is on the door? I always heard them referred to as pota-potties, but for all I know, maybe that is a regional manufacturer and I just never noticed.

I am going to make sure to have some warmed up lamb khorma leftovers for breakfast that day ;-)

"Satellites" is a similarly generic term, much as "Scotch tape" became a colloquial term over time. Who knew?

On the topic of your original March Events post, here's a local event for a new, local brewery (and they have another event coming up before the end of the month as well!)

Coincidentally, that second event in Minnetonka, I already have in my calendar. I have never heard of any of those three breweries before and the location is really close to me. I am probably going to focus a bit on hitting those type of things until I get a feel for all these new (at least to me) local breweries.

Would that be "epic," as in awesome or "Epic" as in one of the three breweries with that name?

    This looks excellent.
Any idea when/where the tap list will be announced?
It just says it will be announced "elsewhere" on the BN Facebook page.

I distinctly remember watching that open, half-full bottle of CBS sit on the table for a full hour before I thought "Screw it, I'm taking a second pour." When something like that gets ignored...well, draw your own conclusions.

very soon. There were two beers that I thought would be included, but it turns out were not available yet/anymore, so ...tomorrow I decide on their replacements and announce the full list. Thanks.
