    Hey all,

New to the forums, but also relatively new to craft brews. I'm asking you all for a bit of help so I can continue to expand my tastes.

Almost every weekend I travel from South Central PA to the DMV area (Arlington, specifically). My boyfriend and I go to the same place for our beer every weekend, but it's mainly a wine shop, so the craft beer selection is on the smaller side.

I'm willing to stop off for good selection, but I'm not quite sure what there is along my route besides Wegmans...and Wegmans.

    My route is basically I-81 near Chambersburg -> I-70 E toward Frederick -> I-270 S toward Washington -> I-495 S toward NoVA-> I-66 E

If you guys know anything good off of those routes it would be greatly appreciated! The larger the selection, the better.

Bonus points go to someone who can help me locate some La Terrible, because I miss it.

Last time I saw La Terrible, it was at Rodman's in DC:

    http://www.rodmans.com/

From Arlington, it would probably take you half hour to get there, but you could hit up a bunch of other awesome liquor stores in DC on your way:

    Tunnel Liquors: http://www.yelp.com/biz/tunnel-wine-and-spirits-washington
Whole Foods on P Street: http://www.yelp.com/biz/whole-foods-market-washington-3
Chevy Chase Wine & Spirits: http://www.chevychasewine.com/

If you're willing to go a little further in the opposite direction (east down 66), Norm's in Vienna is great:

    http://www.normsbeerandwine.com/

While you're there, there's another Whole Foods a few blocks away with a great selection:

    http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/vienna

For reference, Arlington is exits 71-75, and Vienna is 62. They're numbered by miles, so if your exit is 72, then 62 is only 10 mi away. And if you go that way, you could take Rt. 123 N to 495 N home, and hit up the Total Wine in McLean on your way. Supposedly, they have the best selection of any TW in the area, with bombers of harder to find stuff:

    http://www.totalwine.com/eng/storeL...r/storeDetails.cfm&storeid=1&locationId=17734

Good luck! Now, what time are you picking me up?

Oh man, Norm's and Chevy Chase look pretty sweet. Their selection definitely looks bigger than Arrowwine's. My boyfriend and I head out to McLean sometimes, so that sounds good. We've also gone to Vienna a few times. We might be hitting up DC Beer Fest, so hoping to try more while there. Also the Cherry Blossom Festival is coming up, so I might have to see what I can grab while there in the DC area. Om nom nom.

Also, the boyfriend is new to the DMV area (hence why I now frequent the area), but he's always looking for friends who home brew and/or drink good beer. He just joined the DC Homebrewers mailing list I think.

Whoops, I was going to suggest State Line because I thought you meant "DelMarVa." Never heard DMV before.

DMV in this case was DC, MD, and VA - but I DO go to the DE/PA area sometimes.

I grew up in Delco, and my mom now lives near Newark. If you know any places near Bear/Newark that would also be welcomed. I'll be in that area in a few days

Oh cool, definitely State Line then (just barely over the line into MD from Newark) http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/7204/view=beerfly

Massive American craft selection and everything in the store is mix-a-six-able. Enormous import selection as well. If you join the wine club (for free, just tell them you want to) you get a discount on mixed-six and single bottles.

Can I just say how excited I am that you mentioned that and I asked for more details? If I were to stop there it would only add 5 minutes to my trip. Checking out the reviews of the place makes me even happier.

Out of curiosity, why do you get a discount on beer if you join the wine club? That just sounds weird. Haha.

This man speaks the truth. I just spent a couple of hours and way too much money at State Line recently. It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside...

15% off singles and 5% off non mixed sixes if you join the club. Have fun!

Well for me the 15% discount justifies buying 25% more beer. So I was happy, but my wallet and wife less so.

Bahahaha. That's one way to do it. Where I actually live is really rural, so finding beer that isn't in a case is almost impossible. The closest place is about 30 minutes away and I always hear mixed reviews about it.

When I'm out of the area I tend to get my beer, so since it's Spring Break I see it as a good excuse to buy beer since I'm not at the beach like everyone else I know. ;p

I'm in the same boat in my area. Its either cases or singles at inflated prices. I joke about spending too much there, but in the long run it definitely save me money. Have a great spring break!

I've seen La Terrible in Hagerstown many time at Wooden Keg and Long Meadow. Both great places for other beers as well.

Wooden Keg in Hagerstown. Not the biggest selection but what they have is top notch, ask for Joe.

La Terrible is easy to find. Saw it in Whole Foods P St. the other day.

So I went to State Line Liquors today, and boy was I overwhelmed. I'm used to having like three sets of smaller shelves to look at. This place had like a long grocery isle full of deliciousness.

It was seriously hard to decide. I didn't have a ton of time because I had somewhere to be, but I got three that I know I like (Abt 12, Terrible, and Trappistes Rochefort 8), then got four that I haven't tried yet (Rare Vos, Trois Pistoles, Cuvee Van De Keizer Blauw, and Straffe Hendrik Quadrupel).

Only spent $40 with the discount club thing. I am very pleased.

I just had La Terrible this past weekend, and Loooooved it! I'm going to be in Valley Forge, PA in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to seeing what I can dig up.

I think it's absolutely tasty. I've drank probably 3x 750ml bottles myself, and just bought another tonight. I don't know what it is about it, but it's certainly one of the most enjoyable beers I've had so far.

Also, what will you be doing in Valley Forge?
P.S. - I don't know what else they have, but there's a Wegmans in King of Prussia, PA that has a somewhat good selection. I haven't been around there enough since I turned 21 to know what else there is.

In Arlington, besides Arrowine I'd also recommend Westover Market and Lost Dog (across the street from one another). Westover Market can be a little pricey, but they have an awesome selection. Lost Dog's is smaller, but cheaper as well.

Sounds lovely. I saw stuff about Westover Market but haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Lost Dog's I didn't know of. Will have to try to hit up both.
