maybe because they were offered more? There seems to be way more people a) ISO beat than FT beat, b) people FT beat with reasonable offers than outlandish ones.

I think you are looking at this too closely because a few friends are having a hard time getting some. This seems to be one of the more interesting releases in terms of the trading forum. Usually when a beer like this comes out, the threads are flooded with FTs, however, with Beat there are more ISOs.

For some people it is. I live well over an hour away, more like 2 in weekday traffic. If I could reasonably go back I would, but I can't. And believe it or not most of the population of the Bay Area is down near me (or not very far away), so the number of people who can reasonably jaunt up to RR is probably not too many more than the number who reasonably jaunt up to Portsmouth Brewing.

i traded 2 beatifications in person for 2 brambles. i really don't get the hate for that one.

i wouldn't do that for kbs, but i'm still hung up on it being a 4-pack beer.

in line i was told by many people that the going rate for framboise for a cure (2000 bottles?) was a cbs (distributed, 15000 bottles?). so i'm not too sad if, occasionally, the imbalance goes the other way.

but since russian river is so close to everyone and beatification is free, everyone should totally go and pick it up and send it to more people than they already are. i'm sure people would have driven to pick up black note for me had i simply asked.

So I just woke up from a dream where I flew to CA from TX and bought the last 5 bottles of beat from RR. 2 of them were in cans, 1 was a hand bottle. No, I'm not kidding.

what about curmudgeon's better half? it didn't sell out at the release (people went through line multiple times) and it was distributed. think i could have asked someone to go up there and pick up multiple bottles for me at cost?

I think he's using it more as a principle thing. There's really not much difference between "just drive up to Santa Rosa and get me some Beat" and "just drive up to Kalamazoo and buy me some Black Note". They're both equally asinine if you don't know the person. So if someone doesn't find one reasonable but does find the other reasonable, they're a hypocrite. I think that's Levi's point, at least.

I've done that trade, but I tried to do it a separate time (to get a CBS for a trading partner) and got crickets. It might be easier to do now, but my guess is that it'd still be somewhat hard to pull off.

Is this really surprising you at this point? The reasonable traders left seem to be few and far between. It's why my trading has essentially dropped down to 0 if you don't count trading partners. I usually research before I make an offer and they're fair most if not all of the time. Yet starting sometime around August last year I started being asked for more and more than what I was offering. It was then I decided fuck all these people and I'm basically trading with my trading partners and that's it. I've been lucky enough to find a few reasonable traders lately though, one of them even a n00b trader which pleasantly surprised me.

fair enough. but like you said, you're getting hooked up here, too. so your generosity is rewarded.

what i'm observing is that all these distributed ghost releases that were supposedly super scarce at 1, maybe 2, bottles a person have suddenly emerged onto the trading block en masse. that confirms my suspicion that people DID get multiples, and they held on to them for future trade bait while talking up their scarcity. to complain that that behavior is being mimicked by beatification owners is disingenuous.

that being said, i don't think that that accusation is correct to start with. it boggles my mind that people think everyone is conspiring not to send out beatification, when in reality it comes down to pragmatic factors: how far away they live, how much money they have to trade, and of course, their observation of how these " big " releases are being doled out from other parts of the country (i.e. hedging for future trades).

    that's correct.

that's why i find it particularly amusing when a cbs owner complains about the bottle count of beatification not making it accessible.

Also how good it is... I've had King Henry, BCBCS, CBS, Better Half, Bramble, and probably whatever-the-hell-else you're counting in those big releases, and I'd rather have Beat than any of them.

Yeah, it's strange to me when people whine about thus-and-such being too hard to get or getting ransomed. I've had almost no issues getting every new release I was even a little bit interested by being patient and building relationships over the past year. So these complaints ring quite hollow.

Its probably because you guys are talking about the new one and compared to the 1st one its just ok speaking relatively so there's not as much demand for it. Its funny that the new one is having a tough time pulling in a CBS but the old one couldn't be pulled in by a case of CBS unless stoutfest had it and CBS was his favorite beer.

This is probably a big factor too. I only trade my favorite beers to people I really like, otherwise I drink them myself.

Shrug. I really liked B2 (didn't have B1). I had it next to a Rose de Gambrinus and thought it compared pretty favorably. I'm not saying that this trade should happen, just that I had mixed results with it.

A lot of people saved their Beat for future limited release around the country. It will not be easier trying to trade for another 18000 bottles GI Barrel Aged something. We don't have many limited release up here in NorCal to load the ammo.

I definitely agree with this. I made a huge trade to 1 person for a lot of Beatification but I also kept quite a few to keep for future trading ammo. There are a lot of killer breweries around Santa Rosa (where I live) but very few of them have limited release beers that are desirable.

You midwest folks are being shown how hard the latest GI and Founders releases are to trade for now. Maybe you'll stop asking the world for what equates to an off the shelf beer and stop hyping them up. It's funny that you get pissy when the tables are turned. CBS, King Henry, and Black Note FT posts have been far more ridiculous than this.

Thank god I have a regular IL trading partner that helps me out.

Thank god indeed, cuz with a post like that you surely won't be making many new friends.

Remember when this used to be a community? That was nice.

i honestly find transparent "i'm trying to drive down [or up] value so i can get the most from my trades" threads like this disgusting. i think you should be ashamed of yourself for posting it.

what i'm trying to convey is that i've run into numerous people that didn't buy that. one idea that i heard a few times in line is " we'll see the bramble, bcbcs, and king henry come out now. " and guess what? it has. i think a lot of people are feeling some vindication that many traders procured quite a bit of those beers. they " vanished " into trade bait. while i think plenty of beatification is going out for reasonable offers, the rest of it is probably being hedged for future trade bait, seeing how many recent releases were obviously purchased with that mindset.

i called it a few weeks ago....

There's a good chance I'm not digging deep enough, but I just did a quick scan of the first five pages of ISO:FT and saw three or four posts with a King Henry/BCBCS/Bramble for trade in the title. And the one post I saw that was offering all the variants was from a dude in Maryland (not very close to Chicago, last I checked).

Again, there's a good chance I'm not digging deep enough. But it didn't seem to jump out at me that there's suddenly a ton of it on the market. Curious where you got that impression.
