The Beer Yard in Wayne still has plenty, but only by the case of course. Just grabbed one today bottled on 2/21/13.

Had it on draft at the Main Cup in MD on friday. The place only has 5 beers on tap and 3 of them are Widmer Bros. I was amazed they had NN. It was very tasty.

I'm well over half done my keg. Friends etc who have been helping me drink it all agree it's fantastic. I'm loving it and will cry the day it kicks.

Nice to hear positive things, but so hit or miss it's sad....received this from a fellow beer geek and outstanding home brewer who has been drinking NN for years.

"I got of keg on NN on Monday and I have to tell you I'm thoroughly disappointed. It's a hoppy bitter malt bomb. No aroma or flavor of hops whatsoever. Drinkable yes but I would never gotten a keg of it if I knew it would taste this way.

I've been drinking this beer for many, many years (probably since it first came out) and I've gotten a keg of it the last three years. This year is the worst of all. I even emailed Troegs letting them know. I think I'm done getting a keg of this from here on out."

He has been crying since his first sip....

I genuinely feel for your buddy. Buying a sixtel of Nugget Nectar is quite a commitment. Given the reported variability of Nugget Nectar from batch to batch this year (and last year) I would be very uncomfortable making a decision to buy 5 gallons of Nugget Nectar unless I had a great relationship with my beer distributor; will a beer distributor take back ‘bad’ kegs?

I expect that Keith can very much resonate with your buddy since he got a ‘bad’ keg of Nugget Nectar last year.

I should mention (again) that I purchased one case of Nugget Nectar and I was happy since I got a case from a good batch. I contemplated purchasing a second case but the quote from Dirty Harry kept going through my head (Do you feel lucky, punk!?!) and I didn’t buy any more Nugget Nectar.

Please report back on whether your friend hears back from Troegs and how they resolved the issue.

    Cheers!

My sixtel that was kegged on 2/26/13 is delicious. It's as good as I've ever had.

I'm confused. Was it hoppy and bitter or was it a malt bomb? I would think if it was hoppy and bitter that would be from the bittering hops used to flavor the beer.

Good point. You can't say it's hoppy, and then say there's no flavor of hops.

For what it's worth, I thought Nugget Nectar tasted more or less like it always has -- maybe a bit more subtle on the hop side.

So was 3/13 the last bottling date of NN? Friends of minen are coming in early April and want to go to the brewpub. Wonder if they will have any 6er's or if it will still be on draft? I hope so!

I am the one who was (am) unhappy with the keg. It's not a drain pour or so bad I can't drink it. I just find the beer to be bitter, malt heavy, and not having much in terms of aroma and flavor from the hops. It's probably just me and someone else may find it delicious. I have to admit though it is tasting a little better since I tapped it 2+ weeks ago. Weird...

I remember it being much better in years past. It was full of juicy aroma and flavor hops. The simcoe really stood out. I barely even notice it this time around. To me it tastes similar to an 'aged' IPA where the aroma/flavor hops have subsided. FWIW, I heard nothing from Troegs.

I'm picking up my sixtel tonight. Already went through a case which I thought was as good as always. Hopefully it's even better on draft.

    Walter,

Firstly, I am very sorry to hear about your keg of Nugget Nectar.

You state: “To me it tastes similar to an 'aged' IPA where the aroma/flavor hops have subsided.”

Here is what Twinsdaddy stated in a prior post to this thread: “The 1/4 bottles have the hoppy, juicy, resinous Nugget flavor we all love. The 1/8 bottles still resemble Nugget Nectar but the hoppy and oily flavor you expect in Nugget Nectar is not there.”

What you are describing is very similar to the description of the 1/8/13 batch.

I bought a case of Nugget Nectar and the batch I obtained had a very noticeable hop flavor/aroma.

It is a real shame that Troegs is having difficulties in consistently brewing Nugget Nectar. I hope that Troegs responds to you.

    Cheers!

    Jack

    Sure you can....
Hops are used for different things...some for bitterness, some for flavor and also for aroma.

Despite the less than desirable bottles dated 1/8 I had earlier this year I am picking up a keg tomorrow or saturday. Praying its a good one. I will definitely report back.

Did you actually read the person's analysis? It's pretty clear when he says hoppy, bitter, malt bomb he's referring to the flavor. It's either hoppy OR there's no flavor or aroma of hops -- can't be both.
