Does anyone remember... Back in 09 when craft brewers pushed their imperial pilsners and lagers at us? Im sure their style is an intricate one, and flavors unique, but did anyone else feel disappointed as brewers made these their new releases? I recall as dfh, victory, port, three floyds, etc pounded shelves( most of which are collecting dust) with the very concoctions we rebelled against. Im guilty of at least ponying up my 8$ for a 22 of Golden Shower, but does anyone miss them or feel that they missed out?

Scary fuckin times they were.... Talk amongst yerselves while i stare blankly at my 2 year bottle of flossmoor stn imperial 357????

Plenty of good lagers out there, I wish there were more that made them to bottle. I wish The Livery would bottle some of their barrel aged sour lagers and stop cut down on some of the stereotyping of lagers.

I remember Great Lakes releasing Imperial Dortmunder Gold in 2008 for their 20th Anniversary, and it was pretty solid, but they've rarely brewed it since. I'd personally just rather have a regular Dortmunder Gold though. Heavy Seas Small Craft Warning is still out there and it's not bad. But I can't say Imperial Pilsner/Lagers are my fave. If I'm feeling for a pils/lager, I'll usually just go for the traditional ones..

For some reason I like the idea of a double pils but, so far, have despised the taste of every one I've had. Maybe not despised... but definitely spurned.

Eh, that's a fad I don't mind seeing gone. While I enjoy a well-made lager every now and then, making them imperial tends to take away what's good about them. Instead of being light, crisp, drinkable, and flavorful, they become thick, sweet, and heavy. Olde Hickory did one recently that was aged in chardonnay barrels, which was pretty decent since the barrels helped to dry it out, but it's just not a style I can really get behind.

i'd rather just drink an oktoberfest or an amber lager.

In my opinion, "imperial pilsner" is an oxymoron. The higher alcohol and added sugars take away from a style of beer that is tradionially brewed to be lighter.. However, there are plenty of amazing higher octane lager brewed beers such as doppelbocks and eisbocks.

It was in my local TW as of ~2 weeks ago, but I wasn't about to pay $10+ for a bomber of pilsner considering the price points of Prima and Dortmunder:

Can't wait for the bourbon barrel aged imperial milds. Drinking a home-brewed smoked mild right now and, man, I just wish it had more flavor...:slight_frown:

Good pilsners and lagers are not imperial.

I still have an empty bottle of DFH My Antonio in my room, that was not a cool year.

Thanks. I appreciate your avatar. Bet he's put down quite a few pints of mild in a single session every now and then.

I really liked Uinta's Tilted Smile Imp Pils, but I do agree that they drink more like an IPA than an pils.

Yeah, I would love to try Bruery's take on it... everything I have had in the imperial pilsner category or related has tasted sweet, boozy and yet empty.

Sidenote: craving for a big and still clean and crisp beer is generally satisfied with Duvel served cold.
