There's nothing wrong with ticking, in itself. What can be annoying is the know-it-all attitude that sometimes comes as a result. You know what I mean: People who say or post things like "anybody who thinks [insert name of popular, widely available beer here] is good has never tried [insert name of obscure beer in same style most people have never tried]."

It's not that it's "bad", it's that your rating has less credibility to a lot of people.

The reason I will never become a ticker is because is that I like to remember a beer by more than just a number.

Nothing is wrong with the hunt! It's not about the destination anyways, rather the journey. The hunt and exhilaration of actually finding the beer itself is the best part IMO!

tick away my friend. Whether you tick after a sip or a full beer, at the end of the day your the only one it matters to.

So, Tick what you drink. Drink what you want!

By not drinking BMC crap from the start?

    Maybe that was just me.

But otherwise, I agree with your point.

I don't tick for the sake of "ticking".
I love trying new stuff, and if I find something I really like I will buy it again.
Example, IF I could get Zombie Dust regularly (and fresh) I would always have some on hand. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop trying new things. It just makes an awesome regular drink or awesome stand by.

I love this thread. It reminds me to take a breath, enjoy every beer and life ( at least from time to time).

I like trying lots of new beers but I'm not a ticker because I don't keep a record of what I've sampled.

And keeping a record, of course, is kissing ass.

Hi, my name is tim and i am a ticker.

i'm relatively new to craft beer and try to keep my budget under control while expanding my horizons as far as possible. so, i am more likely to mix a six of things i've never had then buy a 12 pack of old reliable. this journey has led me to some favorites and i do go back to them quite often. but here's an example - i've come to love sublimely self righteous and wookey jack. so, i will "tick" a ton of black ales to see how they stack up. this isn't an ounce here and there, but a bottle or two of each. if that has a negative connotation, then so be it.

I'm still pretty new to the craft beer scene so I definitely like to try new things and I enjoy seeing my beer count rise, but I don't count or rate beers based on a 2oz. sample. If I enjoy the sample so much, I go out and buy a bomber or a sixer and rate it (and therefore tick it off my list) based off a full beer or more. I believe I read somewhere on here not to rate beers based on samples or after too many and I abide...respect beer as I heard someone say somewhere once.
