Just got two via trade and one has something that looks like sediment stuck inside the neck. Anyone else have this?

If the beer was layed down during shipping that is very possible, in four packs there is about a 1/8th of a inch of sediment at the bottle when fresh. I personally swirl it in to the beer(must be there for a reason) The regular Crooked Tree is famous for the floaties in it, even talks about it on the side of the 6 packs. I would not fret about it at all. Unless it was not layed down, but I am assuming it was.

There is a huge debate among IPA lovers of the more balanced malt/hop approach or the "get outta the way malt, here comes the hops!" I lean toward the hop forward beers like Pliny or FFFs but occasionally like to change it up. Some hops blends like Pliny's CTZ, Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo are just classic and don't need lots of crystal malts to add sweetness and take away from the complexity of these aromatic hop blends. But there are some IIPAs with a huge malt backbone for the hops to play off of, add lots of body, and balance out that crazy IBU level. I tend to lean to these maltier versions on cold winter nights.

Crooked tree is a great balance of Malt/Hops with no flavors clashing. IMHO, there is really nothing to right home about with this beer. Bad? No. but at the price point and the huge ABV, not something i would run to the pub for.

I frickin hated Devil Dancer but I thought Double Crooked Tree was really good. I could tell it had a bit of alcohol, but i thought for 13 percent it was very well hidden.

I personally love it...Love that it is more hop forward..Also believe there are some who just wont like it because its not a hop bomb..

Yes. It is the yeast sediment. Don't be afraid. It's common in the Double Crooked Tree.

Cheers. I've had the bottles standing up and sure enough, spot in gone.
Now to choose when to drink.

I personally like these with a little age on them. Maybe try one fresh now and sit on the other. Either way, enjoy. Cheers!

This. I drink a couple fresh and then store a few away for 1 year. After 1 year- excellent barley wine.

You should watch me drink a few.
Then you'd see how people enjoy this stuff so much.

Having said that, you'd never see me drink a sour. They're just not for me.

I got a 4 pack yesterday for $15. Worth it. It's a little different than some other popular DIPA's but it's still very good.

I grabbed the last 4-pack off the shelf yesterday on sale for 14-something, 16 out the door.
But I've never understood the 'this beer is too expensive to try' mindset. If a beer has some good hype and you think you might like it, just try it. Look around for the better deal. Does an extra dollar or two for something you've never had really matter? The different prices for different breweries is just something I've come to accept, especially smaller breweries that actually make good beer that might not be able to afford selling cheaper yet. DHBC is still pretty small...I mean have you not seen their label art??? Seriously!

Would this even be a thread it if it were a $10 bomber?

    Seriously.
    Even at $17/4-pk, it's $0.35/oz or approx. $7.75/bomber.
If you don't care for the taste, fine.
If budget is tight, buy Hop Stoopid.
But seriously, it isn't outrageously priced.
Additionally, I don't know of another DIPA that ages as gracefully.

Finally got my hands on a bottle of this and I have to say I'm not impressed at all, for all the hype this gets it's just okay IMO. Glad I didn't drop the money on a 4 pack because I would've kicked myself after trying the first bottle at what it's going for.
