Had one a few days ago. Split it and still could barely finish the glass. Tasted like straight butter. Could have poured it on popcorn. Seriously no bourbon or base beer to taste...
Hopefully the bottle I have is not the same.

I can get a creaminess, but not butter. Either the bottle was bad or your taster is because it has a very present bourbon presence.

That was in no way a dig. Just saying that you should have gotten Bourbon.

I cracked one on Sunday, and did a side-by-side with regular hatchet. I would say it was slightly creamy didn't smell nor taste like butter, but it had a very "oily" mouth feel. I also didn't get a whole lot of bourbon from it. It was good, glad I was able to get a few.

I'm gonna have to crack another and check again. The types of oily buttery descriptions coming out now are most likely bacterial issues and not a diacetyl fermentation issue. I'm probably just being paranoid due to the RC issues I've had but if this starts to develop bacterial infections that bring on diacetyl notes, this certainly isn't for aging.

Having already tried one bottle that I thought was very good, I still don't think this beer is suitable for aging. It is by no means a "hot" beer. The bourbon is pretty tame compared to most other BA stouts. I think it's about as good as it gets. The two-year-old "OG" Burbon Barrel Buried Hatchet I had at the Hay Merchant anniversary was definitely past its prime.

I'll never understand why people would want to age a barrel aged beer. The barrel fades and you're left with the non barrel aged version of the beer.

I agree with this. I didn't mean laying it down for years, intentionally. I was more talking about maybe having to consume this asap before something sets in to ruin it. It's not unlike me to buy something and just have it hang around for 6-8 months before I finish it all.... I guess aging wasn't the word I as looking for.

This is probably something I should enjoy post haste before it's un-enjoyable.

Can't agree here, I understand your logic but I just had a 2011 and 2012 Central Waters BA Stout side by side and the 2011 blew the 2012 out of the water. No pun intended
