A combination of lack of space, lack of knowledge, and time. I live in a small apartment in Boston and all of my free space is currently filled with other things. I also have no idea how to do it and wouldn't even know any equipment and supplies to get. I worked as a lab tech for a number of hears so If someone were to walk me thru it I'm sure I could pick it up and run with it no problem. I'm hoping to get into it when I eventually move out and have more space to play with.

Cause I live in Portland, I could throw a rock and hit a brewery and that rock could bounce off and hit another one. I sold my all grain setup when I moved here too much beer not enough time.

I chose "other" because if anyone drank my stuff, I think they would be hospitalized.

I just brewed my first Mr. Beer batch. It was a lot of fun, but at my age (36) it’s really hard to find the time to make it a regular hobby. I’m married with a full time job and do a lot of “house stuff” and travelling. I see myself doing it a couple of times a year for fun. I think if I was 10 years younger and single, I might get into it a little more.
Also, between the 20 beers I brewed with the kit, the 12 beers a month I get from a beer-of-the-month club membership, and the weekly visits to the liquor store, things are getting out of control.

I don't have the time needed to learn how to brew and then experiment until I can make something not horrible. I have way to many other hobbies to start brewing my own. But I applause those that do, who knows the next big awesome brewery might come from one of those homebrewers.

You're a beer of the month club member in Massachusetts? How does that work with the illegal shipping and everything?

I agree. I find the cleaning part to be the most odious of tasks and really detracts from the joy for me. I also agree about the resources of every kind that it takes with time being the main one. My biggest passion is bicycling and that's pretty time consuming. My other is beer and buying off the shelf takes far less time than brewing does.

I do brew, but if I could think of a reason not to, it would be because it is too time consuming.

I don't have the time or money to do it justice. I do not want to brew a beer that is half-assed...thats not what craft beer is about. Soon I Hope.

I simply don't have the disposable income required to start brewing. When I get a better job, I plan to start. I'm very much looking forward to it, because I think it will seriously shore up my understanding and appreciation of beer both as a beverage and as a work of art.

I do brew beer, but I got married in December and still have cases of wedding beer to get through before I can stick another couple cases in my cellar that won't end up wasted. I'm actually getting through it and hope to resume hombrewing in the next month or so. I already have a hef in mind for when I start up again.

I do homebrew and don't believe i've brewed a beer that can compete with the majority of the beers in my beer fridge. I'll keep trying though because when I do...it'll be a glorious day!

Just so you know, extract brewing is extremely easy, and my very first extract batch (and I'm sure countless other homebrewers') actually turned out pretty tasty. So the time learning and experimenting is not a very good reason.

I tried it for a couple of batches like 20+ years ago. Not enough return value for the time and materials investment for me. I could go fishing, too, but I'd rather go the store and buy fish. What time I have to devote to perfecting stuff I'm going to consume I'm reserving for Indian food.

Too much effort and work for too little reward. I'm not a "project" guy, some one who always has to be building, or repairing, or remodeling something. I generally don't work unless I'm getting paid. And brewing is a lot of work.

When I was making 5-gallon batches I had the same criticisms. Now that my buddy and I have ramped up to 30-gallon batches, the reward is (literally) much greater.

I do homebrew but I took a year or more off for lack of time. More money would fix some of the time issues though.
