Iowa Rumors?

Any word on kbs hitting waterloo/cedar falls?

 

Hmm, I've always thought they had a pretty good selection.

Distributors gave the option to come to the warehouse and pick up the beer today. We decided to wait. Pretty sure we are going to do a 5pm release tomorrow, 4 pack limit.

 

I kind of like that though. Seems like it will work out well for everybody. Some today, some tomorrow. That way the people that want to hoard can travel all over for two days. Ha.

 

Nevermind. Google mislead me to a ghetto hyvee in Des Moines. Then I figured out that I will just have to wait and try Mills or Grand tomorrow. For anyone else following this one sided conversation, he meant Oakland rd, Cedar Rapids.

 

Coralville hy-vee has 4 cases 2-4pack limit as of 30 mins ago.

 

Same here. Hopefully we don't have a bunch of people show up and it trickles out over a few hour period. I doubt that though. Just popped one here at work, I really don't see what people see in this beer, but I still have to try a bottle every year.

 

Marion Hyvee had no limit...if you hurry, 6 4 packs left.

Do you have any info as to why it seems like Iowa got enough of this for everybody to get AT LEAST a four pack when other places are doing 1-2 bottle limits and some people are even having trouble getting it? Obviously Iowa is smaller than some states...

I'll admit that I was a bit disappointed. I've only been doing this beer thing for a little over a year but I feel like KBS is one of the weaker special release/hard to find beers that I've been able to get my hands on and wanted to try.

 

I'm not sure. Judging by estimates, I'd say we got roughly 2 palates in our distributors area. I have no idea what the others have gotten in. I never had a problem finding KBS years ago, but I haven't looked for it in a few years either. It used to be like any other seasonal release with just a little more demand. Goose Island BCS was the same way. I wouldn't say it's tough to get, but it isn't sitting around on shelves for a few months either.

 

I live in Iowa and will not be able to get a four pack. One of the top five metros in Iowa in fact (Waterloo/CF). We always get screwed up here, our Founders distribution sucks. Nowhere in town is getting KBS

 

Had a KBS for the first time a couple nights ago. I'd honestly put it on par with Backwoods Bastard. Both are well-crafted barrel-aged beers that are great to drink over the course of an evening and it's fun to appreciate how the flavors change and become more prominent as it gets toward room temp. But in the end, neither was one really stood out as an entirely unique, "life-changing" beer. Still, I have to applaud Founders on their quality and consistency.

 

Mahoney's still has it on tap...had a pour last night and I think it was head and shoulders better than the bottle. just my opinion.
