Totally agree with this. My first thought upon tasting was, "Where's the bourbon?"

Overall, it's solid. Just not living up to the massive hype this year. I'll grab another 4-pack of regular Breakfast Stout before hunting down more of this.

No hunting for me this year. At $26.99 for a "meh" 4pk......I'll stick with Bourbon County Stout.

I saw that too! That whole bottom shelf was basically on sale! Some great deals to be had.

If I come across bottles of KBS, I'll buy them. If not, no big deal. I still have plenty of '12 BCBS and CW Peruvian Morning bottles left.

Most of the stuff that never sells, lol. A lot of the Nogne O stuff, some HaandBryggeriet stuff, some Urthel stuff, some italian things that I dont remember. I tried to take pictures but my phone camera sucks and I dont have a smart phone to just look things up so thats about all I remember. I'd say there were a good 30 different things in that Belgian section that were on sale. Some Mikkeller stuff too.

I believe the La Chouffe line was on sale as well as the St. Louis lambics.

Did the Great Lakes Forum have a secret meeting I wasn't invited too where everyone collectively decided that KBS is now an average beer? WTF is going on, Peruvian morning better then KBS? BCBS (without coffee which is apples to oranges IMO) better then KBS? I know the hunt sucks guys but seriously........ I guess I'm in the minority again.

People like to hate on what they can't have. Its also the in thing to hate on Founders right now.

Correct, I bought the Chouffe BSPA for a discount but I'm not sure if any of the others were on sale. Sorry we're straying from the topic of the thread now, lol. We can discuss more in the binnys algonquin thread if we need to.

Yes, we all met. Didn't you get the Evite? And to me, yeah, PM is better than KBS. so what? I hope that doesn't get me kicked out of The Beer Nerdery. I also wouldn't say KBS is average. It's good. It's just had better years. Not a lot of bourbon in it this year, which is a characteristic I really like in it.

I'm not hating on it. I'm not even really complaining; just saying that this year's batch is different than last year's batch, and I prefer last year's better. And this year's vs. CW PM, in a blind taste-test, my taste buds would prefer PM. Also, I have a shitton of this year's KBS. So I'm not saying this cause i can't get it. I'm saying it cause it's how I feel.

opinions are opinions. nothing more, nothing less.

Has it been released in the Rockford area yet? I've heard today or Thursday.

I thought the bourbon was as much there as its always been, again I must be in the minority. I wasn't pointing at you per se, I was just saying there's like 100 people saying similar negative comments about the beer. It's starting to feel like Dark Lord soy sauce negativity pile-on. This is the 100'th monkey effect on beer reviews IMO.

Also peoples taste buds and preferences change while a beer may continue to be exactly the same year in and year out. Unfortunately beer isn't stagnant so we can't test for 2013 being exactly the same as 2012, but I think your preference for a stronger bourbon flavor comes from probably having so many barrel aged beers lately that you no longer appreciate or taste the subtle, perfectly balanced bourbon flavor and look for the 'hotness.' Again its all opinion, I'm not slighting anyone but before people say I'll pass because a couple strangers on the internet are saying 'B' is better then A, they should all try 'A' and not rely on other peoples opinions.

3 friends and I went to the KBS Release Party this year, and all of us commented how we definitely tasted the bourbon presence. I think it was very well balanced against the other flavors. For reference's sake, all 4 of us were drinking KBS for the first time.

And people who say this deserve to miss out on good/borderline great beer.
