Upland Brewing Company today announced they are hosting their second annual Sour Wild Funk Fest, the Midwest's premier wild ale festival, on Saturday, May 11, 1:00-5:00pm, at Developer Town, 5255 Winthrop Ave, Indianapolis, IN. This year over 20 breweries will be included from across the country and world, with over 50 beers to enjoy.
The focus of this festival is to celebrate the wild ale category of beers, focused exclusively on Lambic, Flanders, Farmhouse, and Saison style beers and ales. These beers are finely and carefully crafted, taking months and sometimes years to produce. Some have a distinct tart or sour flavors, other have vinous qualities, while other have uniquely funky characteristics. This rapidly growing category of beers has had a tremendous impact on the craft beer community, and Upland is directly in the midst of that trend.
A VIP presentation, discussion, and tasting will also be included featuring Head Brewer Caleb Staton speaking about the history and process for brewing wild beers. As part of this, participants will be tasting beers not otherwise available at the event.
VIP tickets are $60, General Admission is $45, and both include a commemorative sampling glass, and samplings of delicious craft wild ales, with paired meats, cheeses, fruits, and desserts provided by event partner Smoking Goose Meatery. Designated Driver tickets will also be available and include food and non-alcoholic beverages. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, April 3rd at midnight and can be purchased at www.UplandSourFest.eventbrite.com .
Other partners include Kahn's Fine Wines and Spirits, Twenty Tap, and Great Fermentation Home Brew Supply. Keep Indianapolis Beautiful will receive proceeds from the event.

This was a blast last year so I can't wait. There were BAs from all ober the midwest as well as Indiana's finest. I am also very proud that we (Kahns Fine Wines and Spirits) are a sponsor.

How fast do tickets sell out? This sounds like a lot of fun.

They sold out pretty quickly last year. I don't remember if it was less than ten minutes but I want to say it was within a half hour.

I was looking at that as well. I would opt for GI if it weren't for the 3hr drive.

I went last year and it was a pretty solid event. Hopefully, they've got a better selection this year. Getting Sour Reserve batch 2 bottles was a nice plus too. They also sold 2 types of tickets last year. One without Lambic bottle allocations and the other with bottle allocations. I'm not sure why but the tickets that ensured you bottles took days or even weeks to sell out while the lone tickets sold out in minutes. It would be nice if they were doing the bottle allocations again.

Now, do I want to make the drive from MKE to Indy three weekends in a row? I really just need to move back down to Indy.

Is there a list of beer that will be at the event yet?

Last trip in Indianapolis, was amazing thanks to aasher! On Al's recommendation... my buddy and I stopped at Brugge and had a few glasses of Pooka and that sour was seriously to die for! Not to mention they make some really tasty mussles! Indianapolis is definately an unlikely spot to find amazing sours and I have not doubt in my mind thats where you will find them!!!

Last year Upland brought Gilgamesh, Dantalion, Blackberry, Raspberry, and Sour Reserve. Outside of that, Sun King demonstrated why they shouldn't make sours by bringing two buttery abortions, Bells brought Oarsman Ale (no joke), New Belgium brought La Folie, and Goose Island brought Juliet and Lolita.

Looking back, the only reason I paid $45 to go to this was because it secured an allocation of Raspberry and Blackberry Lambic with purchase.

And yet all that was still better than what Sam Adams brought.

according to the event on facebook, there are no bottle reservations with tickets this year, so i elected not to go.
in the end i'm glad that i didn't get tickets to the GI party and won't be buying tickets to this - found out one of my favourite bands (wolf eyes) is playing at the empty bottle the same day and i'd rather not be ridiculously wasted until the gig is actually on.

Upland Brewing Company The thing about sour beers is that they have a schedule all their own, so we don't have any slated to be ready on time for this event. Please stay tuned for our next sour release.

Reminder: tickets go on sale in four hours!

Also, Sour Reserve was a surprise last year and not in the announcements.

Was hoping to make it to this (sour fest within 2 hours of where I live!?) but unless the tickets stick around a few weeks I'm gonna have to pass. Trades taking up my beer budget!

Had to 'like' this for the heads up on a new Wolf Eyes tour! Hoping they post the rest of the dates soon. They never seem to miss Ohio, though (especially with Dilloway living here these days). We'll see how they're doing since Connelly left.

Scored some VIP tickets, even though it cost me $130 (Yikes!) for a pair. Hopefully it's worth it.
