Oh, certainly not an official policy of the distributor or Founders, likely just a suggestion being made to the re-sellers.

I got this same "must buy another Founders product deal" from Capone's (surprise)...

    Loved this from Archer Liquors:

"OK people. We have something you want. REALLY want. And it’s not from Three Floyds. We have received our single case allotment of Founders KBS. But there’s this tiny problem: it’s so ridiculously sought-after and rare that the vultures have been circling for weeks, coming (and calling. And calling. And calling.) from miles around to snatch it.
In an effort to put this beer into the hands of my local buyers, the ones who frequent the store and have helped make us who we are, we’re instituting what I’ve dubbed the Scramble Rule. At some point in the next week, I will hit the airwaves with an alert that will announce a time that it’s available. At that point the scramble begins: you jump on your bicycle, flag that bus, borrow that car, get the babysitter over to take care of the kids, whatever you need to do to get here pronto. There will be very little time between the alert and the time it’s being sold. And there will be even less time before it’s sold out. This will minimize the number of sharks that swim in from far away and take away your God-given right to this beer.
So, if I were you, and I really wanted to get hold of a SINGLE BOTTLE of KBS, follow us on Twitter, friend us on Facebook, or sign up for the Fresh Report (and pray you’ve got push email). Good luck.
PS--Showing up with your mom and cousin so that you can get three? Nope, you will be publicly humiliated by the staff and shamed by all the other awesome people in the store. Be cool, share the wealth, we’re trying to make 24 people happy, OK? "

That may be the best read on how a store gets a limited release out... Even if I were #25, I'd be ok with it just after reading that.

    well played

With all of the stories of stores trying to get as much out of customers on these rare releases it is awesome to get a story like this of a store owner coming up with a different release strategy, telling everyone about it, and trying to be a true beer advocate, "Be cool, share the wealth, we’re trying to make 24 people happy, ok?"

I made an extra purchase at Algonquin Binny's for taking names via twitter then holding the bottles for 3 days. They didn't have to do that, and they didn't ask me to buy anything else. I just felt like I should. Good karma for all involved.

Prestige Liquors in Westmont(an Armanetti's) Had KBS for I beleive $13.49 a bottle UNLESS you bought a Founders 6-er. Then the price dropped down to $7.99.

Schaeffers in Skokie had some this morning, they called me because they held me a bottle after I called a few days ago (didn't think theyd actually call), one bottle limit, it may all be allocated to a list, I would call ahead.

Tonis, which is right down the block, just got a case in this afternoon. Hes got it behind the counter, and I would still call ahead, but again, a 1 bottle limit. If you stop by even if hes out you should buy something from Toni's hes a nice guy, and they are about to put in a Walgreens next door that may really hurt his business. If you call ahead he may hang onto one for ya.
Both places were 5.99 a bottle.
I got my bottle each so I am thrilled.

You only bought one rather than all, you absolutely earned it.

Evanston 1st had some this afternoon. $7.99 a bottle, which in stupid Evanston means its ~$9.50 with tax. I passed because I already got my share but hopefully anyone who missed out can get a bottle.

Discount liquors in Plainfield on Rt. 30 has 4-packs for the low, low price of $35.99. Told him to pound sand but I'm sure it will still sell either way.

That's not that bad. $9 per bottle I can still swallow. I walked into a place that wanted $45.99 for a four pack.

I got the one bottle limit today at my go-to shop for $8. So disappointing when you get home and all you have is a 12oz bottle that'll be gone within an hour. There's always next year haha.

Bottle limit from my local shop and I was happy with that. I know how demand is, so I'm appreciative for even getting that.

Same. I actually appreciated that both shops I got a single from said, "We wanna keep it fun for everybody". Reasonably priced, 1 per customer, so everyone has a half decent shot at getting a bottle.
