yeah trying the WRONG BELLS! oberon....meh. dont see the hype, in fact if you were to call bells "over-rated on this one beer alone, i would agree. you want a good "wheat ale" try 21st amendment's "hell or high water melon" glorious. but not 4 every 1.

Can I ask how many different batches of Hopslam you've consumed? Is this year your first experience with it?

I love both of these midwest breweries as with most midwest breweries that are in my fridge at all times..... But I had to weigh in.... Two hearted is better then any hop forwarb beer Founders makes.... FIS is better then expitdition, but not by much. KBS and Black Note are equal IMO. Founders makes a better porter and rye beer. Bells makes better Barleywine/Old Ales... Not to mention Bells has a much deeper profile then Founders.

Either way they are both great at a lot of stuff but bellls did not get to be the size and awesomness it is by being overrated:confused:

Give it another shot. Honestly...this year wasn't their best output. But every other year it was easily my favorite DIPA...like by miles. Fruity and dry as shit...just tremendous. This year, it was a little lackuster. Give Hopslam one more shot...then we can continue this thread next year.......eh?

Would be interesting if the OP did a blind tasting with all the styles. I would bet you'd surprise yourself when you pick something like an Odd Side Citra over Zombie Dust...(yes, Odd Side is that lesser known brewer)

Clearly the best way to have a discussion. "I'm going to spout my opinion but since you disagree with me, you can't talk about yours."

Founders Centennial is WAY better than Two Hearted in my book (didn't care for that one, and I don't plan on ever getting it again) but I love Bell's in general.

That is a very solid recommendation but we can begin resurrecting the thread now for how much better the Hopslam was last year or the year before or the year before....

I find it great every year, some years are just greater than others.

Was this statement typed under duress or something? If you "hate to say" something so much, just don't. I'm sure BA will somehow manage to continue operating.

You kind of opened yourself up to that one, though.

People keep saying this. This is so weird to hear. Honestly mind-boggling. I can't help but think that everyone is drinking stale 2H...because it's not even close to Centennial. 2 Hearted is easily in the upper echelon of Midwest shelf IPAs.

Centennial is good, but ultimately shelf clutter...it's forgettable.

Maybe I did have a stale one... I never looked at the bottle date. That said, I've had the Centennial in a bottle and on tap, and both were fantastic. I'll give the Two Hearted another chance if it has a fresh bottle date or if I find it on tap, then.

Honestly, I think people underrate Bells because they're not very flashy. I feel about them as I stated I feel about Great Lakes. Bells' releases are pretty safe and done really well, but, outside of their own taproom, there's not a lot experimentation going on. Founders has several flashy releases (FBS being a double chocolate oatmeal coffee stout, Devil Dancer a triple IPA of 12% ABV, the Backstage Series, hopping on the fresh hop train with Harvest Ale, and, of course, KBS. The flashiest Bells beer is either Hopslam or Black Note. I didn't want to believe it, but I think some people really do taste the hype, no offense to you, OP. To each their own.

Except on comparing Centennial to Two-Hearted. It's literally not even a competition, Two-Hearted wins every single time, so you may take offense to that if you like.
