Apologies for using approximations. I didn't realize that i was going to get blasted over population statistics on a beer forum.

My point was that the Houston population is significantly greater than Austin, and despite that the Austin craft beer market gets way more attention than Houston, which makes no sense to me... Good beer from any brewer does not sit on the shelves inside of beltway 8, whereas I've been in whip-in and seen beers on the shelf that were sold out I'm h-town weeks ago. With 3 times the population, even by the "official" stats, this makes sense to me.

And yes, I was including "planet" Houston in my numbers, however I didn't realize I needed to quote references here. Anyone who actually lives in this city realizes that over 1/3 of the population living here will never return a census form as (a) there an illegal or (b) they're too lazy on the east side. (Note that this is called sarcasm for those of you that may now label me a bigot)

That is all. I will go back to reading and not writing.

Oh - and for the record, San Antonio gets the same rep as Houstlon, and I feel bad for ppl there that got even less allotment than Houston, as despite whatever the "official" stats tell you, the city is almost as big as the Dallas and Houston metro areas.

Sorry for interrupting the discussion about founders... Back on topic...

Downtown was quick, but awesome, like a well oiled machine. Those kats behind the bar are awesome! Sure there wasn't enough KBS for all, but having tasted it, Doom was indeed the surprise winner. Great combo of IPA and barrel. Can't wait to see Founders on a steady supply down here. Friend of mine @DoubleACantu got to chat with Founders' Michael Bell and all had a great night.

    Welcome Founders. Cheers to all.

Glad to have gotten to SL Saucer just before 5:30 to get KBS before it floated. Then had Doom, which was impressive in it's own right. Have not always appreciated the barreled IPAs before, but this one was surprisingly delicious.

What other barreled IPAs have you had? I've only had BBA Rodeo Clown and Bodacious.

You clowns thought Doom was better than KBS? You guys are tripping; all I got was grapefruit out of that one. I say, get a couple of bottles -- if possible -- and save them as trade bait...

Nope. Bodacious was aged in wine barrels. IIRC, they were merlot barrels.

I thought Doom was very unique. I got more vanilla than anything.

Of course the KBS was great, but Doom was amazing and a new twist on the BBA thing.

    I'll be hoarding my bottles!

It wasn't so much that Doom was better than KBS, it was just that my expectations were further exceeded.

I went in expecting KBS to be perfect, and it was very close to that. I also went in thinking Doom would be good, but it ended up being amazing.

Yes, KBS was a better beer, and if I could have one more glass of either it would be KBS. But overall, my expectations were further exceeded by Doom.

Seriously, a huge THANK YOU to Phil for giving me his extra glass.

As he said, I walked in to Flying Saucer Downtown a few minutes after 5pm, he sat me down immediately when I walked in and said, "Here, I bought you a beer!" He didn't even know I was coming in. :sunglasses: A minute later the waitress came around, I ordered three more glasses of KBS (another for for Phil, another for me, and one for my girlfriend who was on her way). A minute or two later, the waitress came back and told us the KBS was all gone. That was about 5:07pm. If Phil didn't order an extra glass, I wouldn't have been able to try it. And because I'm a nice guy, I saved half my glass for my girlfriend who eventually showed up almost an hour later.

I ordered one for a buddy too. Good thing as it floated as he came in the door.
