I'm doing my best to translate from the French (Terre de Boissons). This may well only be of interest to those in the south of England, but I thought it better to post in the UK forum rather than the European one because, let's face it, Calais is mainly only of interest to the Brits. It's a new drink shop that's just opened in Cite Europe in Calais which I'd heard about, so made a point of checking it out when I was over there a couple of weekends.

No it wasn't the cheapest compared to Belgium, but there's nothing to compare it to in the surrounding area. Great choice, with the added bonus of having a few US imports- I was ecstatic to find Noble Pils for 1 euro 50 a bottle. They had every other 'mainstream' brewery covered (Dupont, Chouffe, all the trappists bar Westvleteren, St Bernardus etc etc) I walked away with 30 assorted bottles and only paid 50 euro. I'm heading back in June without a doubt! (Oh, don't buy Orval here- you can get it for 10 cents cheaper at Carrefour. )

Cheers - good gen. Planning a Channel raid in the summer so it's good to know of a place where you can bulk-buy the usual suspects.

And Carrefour for Orval! Back of the net ;-)

You can also buy many cheap strong lagers in cans, from Oranjeboom 14% to Colt 45, for that authentic street hoodlum feel.

Cool info. Not that I've ever crossed the channel to search for booze, but this might tempt me. Sounds like a great selection under one roof.....

Ah oranjeboom, the 8.5% seems to be the drink of choice for alcoholics around here, judging by the amount left around in the streets.
