I was wondering, when the new and the old site are fully integrated will the like option extend to reviews?

Personally I would like to see this feature (not sure how everyone else feels) and a feature that let us see the "most liked" reviews for each beer as it would be easy to find the best reviews to give you an idea of what a said beer is like.

I think that would result in a bunch of story type reviews where people try to be clever for internet points.

pretty sure this is happening to posts already.

(click " like " if you agree!)

    Aren't we talking about reviews?

yes, but i mean it's going to drag down (or up, depending on what you're looking for) the rest of the site if you implement the feature widespread.

i've pointed out in the past that this is a free site, and the content you get is exactly what you would expect. there has to be more investment in critiquing something other than " liking " it.

Oh, I agree with you on that.

A better idea might be to have a comment link attached to the review, as they have on Amazon reviews. This would allow people to have a back and forth discussion about a review, and would get around the "funny review" problem.

The Amazon question of "Was this review helpful?" might be a little better than just having a "Like" button. You'll still have your occasional wolf shirt but I think it might steer people away from just liking the funny review.

I think that's a really good idea. I've often thought about asking the writer something about the review but since I had to send them a BM instead of just writing it there I never asked.

I was hoping that people would use a like button for this purpose!
Thinking about it though, I agree with what most people have said - a like button would be abused!

A review of a review? I think that is taking it a bit far. A "like" might be too little, but "was this review helpful" I think would bridge the gap a bit.
I think if you have a question about a review a simple BM would do just fine. I don't see the big deal about taking two more seconds to BM them.

Keep it simple. "Like" or "was this review helpful" works for little effort on both ends

I like the "Was this review Helpful?" It adds a nice way to sort the reviews other than most recent.

Agreed, this would be a great way to go.

since this thread still exists, want to voice my opinion that "liking" reviews is not good, nor is there any need for any sort of review-of-the-review.

reviews aren't dialogues. the only policing necessary is site moderation for inappropriate reviews, and an averaging of the scores. it's a simple consumer review site. no popularity contests / personality games, no dumb grandstanding for "likes", etc.

Everything just turns into a Richard measuring contest, huh?

As suggested earlier, I think "did you find this review helpful?" would be more effective. I don't think a 500 word Dark Lord fairytale should be deemed the most valuable review... (although I did get a kick out of that story).

Not to mention that more "Liked" reviews would likely be more recent - who has the time to dig through reviews of beers (some stretching over a time course of 10 years since the first review) to sift out those deemed worthy of a 'Like.'

I think Amazon reviews get into more of a popularity contest than I like (I am a pretty high reviewer there). If people rate a popular author/book negative, they are certain to get bombed with negative votes. I would hate to see that happen here. Agree or disagree, I like to see both perspectives. I often seek the negative reviews on BA, just because they are often the most honest. I would hate BA reviewers to be fearful of getting bombed on a review just because they do not agree with the majority.
