So you would choose to punish people who choose to focus on a handful of beers and do those beers to an extremely high standard? (Not that I think the Monks give a damn what a bunch of yahoos on an American oriented website think.) They clearly don't need to make more than what they do to support their work.

I never said I wouldn't support their work, hell they make kick-ass beer and that's awesome! I simply don't think they should be considered the "best brewery in the world" based on their average beer rating since it is too small of a sample size. To be the "best brewery in the world" I feel you should have to demonstrate a high level of brewing over numerous different beers. I wouldn't even think of considering The Alchemist as the best in the world even though they (almost) exclusively brew ONE beer that happens to be the highest rated on this site. It's just preposterous!

So, a musician who devotes their life to playing piano couldn't be considered the greatest musician in the world, because they couldn't also play harmonica, violin, tuba, kazoo, bassoon, guitar, and bagpipes equally as well? I think there's something to be said for focusing on a narrow specialty, and doing it as well as humanly possible.

Now you're just arguing for argument's sake. That analogy doesn't even work! A musician analogy would have to be something like a musician who only wrote one good song, or even only one good album and wasn't able to make anything else of that quality in the future. You're right that there is something to be said for focusing on a narrow specialty and doing it well, but then you can only be considered the best for that specific thing (be it best song/album/DIPA/RIS etc.). When you talk about the best brewery you're talking about a full body of work, not just a small sample.
