Add some beers to the database, will ya?

(Woemad is excluded from my declaration of lazy turddedness)

I was almost too lazy to reply.

I dont review...sorry. But yes, I have noticed a complete lack of Spokane local beers for the most part. If I was the brewer, I would add them as soon as they hit the market.

These days I only review for the purpose of adding a beer, but I know I'm not the first one to taste the beers I'm adding. Sometimes they've been out there a year or more before I add them. Twelve String only has 3 beers in the database ffs. I think they have like 10 handles.

You could extend this insult to most of the Portland BA's as well, because I encounter beers on a daily basis that aren't on BA. Then again, the stupid 20 review minimum to add a beer doesn't help; there are literally hundreds of beers I could have added over the last few years, but since I don't review I'm not allowed.

I like the 20 review minimum. It's not that big of a deal to knock out 20 quick reviews of beers you're already familiar with, just grab a schooner to refresh your views. Plus, to add a beer, you have to review it anyway, so ya might just as well go grab a SNPA, DFH 60m, Widmer Hefe, etc. and be done with it.

Given that I'm in daily contact with brewers, reps, and other industry folk on a daily basis I'd really prefer not to review anything, for a variety of reasons. I'm also not allowed to drink while I'm working, so reviewing while adding a new beer is generally not a possibility. That said, if I'm sitting at my desk with a new bottle in front of me I could easily add information that would be potentially useful for someone else.

The requirement to review the beer at all is also an obstacle. Every time I'm at Cascade there's a couple things on the menu that aren't in the BA database, but I generally only get tasters there, with food, and am generally reluctant to pen a full review based on that. I'd be willing to add the beers into the database, but I'm not going to write a full review of every new beer they put on.

Todd has said that with the site redesign, we'll be able to add beers with a "Had".

I've seen some beers with no reviews or Hads. I've wondered how they've been added.

I'm not sure, but I think that you add the beer, wait a couple days, then delete your review. But, the one time I tried that, it took the beer off the list too. Maybe the brewery sent the info into BA HQ?

Yep. I used to get excited by all the new beers I was adding to the data base from Cascade, until I realized that there was pretty much always something new on offer at the barrel room, every time I stopped by. Like you (it sounds), I've just pretty much given up on that. Besides, a lot of the wild ales they put on out there, you see them one time and then they're never on offer again. Seems kind of pointless to review a beer like that (IMHO).
