not a Summit fan at all, probably same reason why I don't like Michael Jordan or the Yankees. When it's shoved in your face so much you are tired of it being in your face. I do like Saga, but it is not my first choice or second or usually third choice. It is a good beer. I enjoy Overrated much more. To me, the bitter dryness/pineyness is more to the style. Don't get me wrong, my favorite west coast IPA is Knuckle Sandwhich which is very fruit forward IPA (I don't forget Hoppy Birthday, Expo, PtE, Sculpin, and Venom). I seek out Overrated, I don't seek out Saga, I will drink both.

You can only shoot the moon over and over and over. So many people want brewer's to go more and more extreme. Imagine being a brewer and having to put all of your energy into the next big thing. These guys are Surly because of the their big beers, but now they may be doing another Surly move and doing something that's not what people are looking for.

I thought the name is perfect, it makes fun of the fact that people keep wanting the next biggest thing. Well, this isn't bigger in that sense, but it definitely is great. The hop flavor is very aromatic and smooth.

I love it because they are saying, In this case we're not going to be what you want us to be, we're going to be who we want to be.

Honestly wasn't a fan of Overrated. I'd rather see Abrasive year round instead.

Different styles of beer, can't really compare the two.

I think Overrated is a pretty good version of a west coast IPA, more on the juicy/fruity side, very similar style to Sculpin IPA. I feel like a lot of people were expecting a west cost IIPA hop bomb, in which case they were mistaken. The cost of Overrated is awesome as well.

nelson, duet, west coast ipa, sculpin, idiot, union jack, RPM, blind pig, ruination, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting are what I think of re: west coast IPAs. (from the west coast. VT is making this coast thing complicated)

Overrated doesn't have the hop assault of those beers, imo. Doesn't make it a bad beer, just doesn't put it in that league. A good batch of furious has a bigger hop bite than this first batch of overrated.

Not me, that would get too damn expensive.
I hate to even think what I spent on Abrasive during it's 4 month run.

I say bring on the affordable beer (is there really such a thing?).

I tried and loved overrated, well done Surly!

This beer hits the west coast IPA style perfectly imo, this will be put in the regular beer rotation.

I've had three cans of this now and the best way I'd describe it is "piney" and similar to Green Flash IPA. It's a nice addition to the Minnesota IPA lineup as it is definitely features a different flavor than Saga, and Hop Dish. I do like the price point too.

I need to score a 4 pack for a DLD trade. Any chance it hits shelves this week?

Enjoyed this very much Friday, went to First Grand again on Saturday to score more but was shot down. I knew I should have picked up another 4-pack. I liked it so much I almost didn't want to drink the last can.

Per Todd's twitter, there's more coming:
"Brewing/canning it every week! RT @DillardJ32: @surlybrewer overrated still being produced or all sold for now? #needsome4trade #DLD13"

Good news, since I totally missed the first batch.

Haha you'd think so. It was $9 or so. Bit more than the places that don't have to go through a distributor, but still none too bad.

Has anyone done a blind taste test with it yet? I had a couple friends who said they did a blind taste test between Overrated and Stone IPA and found them extremely close. They said that they personally couldn't tell which was which and it led them to believe Surly may have been taking a shot at Stone with Overrated.
