I'm guessing it will be better than KH.

I don't have a horse in this race, but I feel compelled to respond because you keeping saying no one else has.

The most important thing about the beer is the beer, and hence the recipe. It doesn't really matter if it's King Henry Version 3.14159 (brewed with real pies! *MATH ZING*) or BCBBABWTKLKHBNRBLOL (Bourbon County Barrel Aged Barley Wine That's Kinda Like King Henry But Not Really Because LOL).

There's really no other point to this discussion beyond that.

Back to the subject at hand: When is this coming out? I have wallets to throw at Goose Island.

Great... So not only do I have to deal with the standard beer nerd rage around any whale release, but I'd also have to navigate through the hordes of crazy soccer Moms that have to get all those door-busting deals immediately or they'll combust into a ball of fire.

    Should be an interesting day.

Unfortunately no way. For the same reason we didn't/won't get BCBS (or Avery's Demons of Ale series or DFH WWS, Olde School or 120min)- we have a 14%abv cap. The projected abv of BCBW is 15%. So I'll be trading &/or paying "too much" to buy online...

Thanks for the insight. I didn't know about the 14%abv cap. Do you know of any states within a 4 or 5 hour drive that don't have the abv cap and will receive these beers?

As annoying as Mike is being about this beer I can't get over how the other dude said someone told him that the base for KH was "undrinkable" come on now...

On their 2013 availability calender it's supposedly be release in April; obviously it hasn't. But when it does, I'm definitely gonna try to get some.

The brewer told me that. Not someone. One of the guys responsible for brewing the beer. If you don't want to believe him or me, that's no skin off my back. I thought I'd actually post the limited first hand knowledge that is somewhat relevant to this topic rather than pure conjecture or opinion.

I can kinda back this up too, as Laffler said Prince Henry was designed for barrel aging, and hence isn't as good w/o. And he also said a KH type BW with used bcs barrels...all per twitter convo July 21 2012 with me.

Do you brew beer? Do you have the recipes of all the of the beers you've mentioned by vintage? How do you have any idea of recipe changes?

I'm hoping NC gets it. Like you guys, we just started getting Goose Island not too long ago as well.

Wait so you're saying it's not called King Henry because the beer is actually different??? OMG. Are you sure? I need a timeout to think about this.

I'm sorry dude but NO ONE would ever openly admit to someone that their product was so bad that it needed a barrel treatment to make it palatable.

Frankly I think you were taken for a fool b/c that unpalatable beer just so happened to become KH. And you remember Prince Henry, right? Could the barrels have had that big of an effect so as to take a shit beer and make it a world class effort?

    EDIT:

Prince Henry is an English Style Barleywine brewed with four different kinds of malt. The majority of this beer went into Bourbon barrels to be aged for an end of the year release as King Henry but we put some into kegs to serve at this event (Paddy Long's tap takeover) without barrel aging. The beer is sweet, and malty with notes of caramel and toffee.

Seems like it wasn't that undrinkable.
