I ask because I recently put up an ISO:FT hopping to find two separate BAs, one with a sixer of Edmund Fitzgerald and one with a sixer of Black Butte. I have a sixer of Mayflower Porter and thought it would be fun if we each sent two beers to the other two participants, that way, we'd all end up with a mixed six pack of three amazing porters.

I had no problem finding someone who was willing to offer up some Edmund Fitzgerald. And again, I have the Mayflower. However, not a single person has stepped forward and offered up the Black Butte. Is Black Butte hard to find? Does it not even come in sixers? Or is my idea just lame, ha ha.

    Any thoughts are appreciated.

It's dead easy to find sixers of all over the place in the PNW and elsewhere, you probably just need the right trader to see the post (i.e. a porter fan in the west coast ditro range). Alternatively, you could order it from France44 (they've had it in the past). When I lived in Oregon it was one of my go-to fridge filler packs.

Its probubly just a matter of finding the right person. Coming from ri, you may have more luck with some other porters that are a little better known/in demand as im sure you realize nobody really asks for only ok brands when trading (its not worth the expense). But you could always just offer ft: locals and see what ppl want.

I'd be hard pressed to find a better Porter in this area. I am not one to cite ratings in support of a beer, but Mayflower Porter has scored a 92 from BA's and a 100 from the bros. I don't think that's simply an "ok" brew. Then again, I could just be a biased homer, ha ha. Thanks for the response.

I've received various vintages as extras a number of times.

The older ones are pretty good.

I would try Ballast Point, Ithaca, Pretty Things as trades, assuming those are easy for you to get.

Edit: your idea is cool, but you'd end up dropping $40 for an $8-$10 mix sixer for having to ship to two people.

Another possible source: if you use Letspour, they often have Black Butte bombers available.

Ok mods, you can lock this one down. I've deduced that Black Butte is readily available and that my trade is either not all that interesting to folks, or the right folks haven't seen it.

    Thanks for the responses everyone.

One approach that might be more successful for you is trying to arrange a trade that's based around some more limited beers (like say, Ghandi-Bot/Heady for Pliny/Blind Pig or something like that) then see if they will expand to throw in a sixer each of shelf porters.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I probably won't go that route. This was just more of a quick, off-the-cuff, trade proposal that I made because I have a six pack of Mayflower on hand. It's not an important enough trade for me to dump the necessary time and money to get Heady and Gandhi-Bot just so I can get this thing going.

Cool! I've got a trader for my little "three-way."

We're all good now mods, you can definitely shut this one down.
