Does anyone know of a bar in NYC (Manhattan or Brooklyn, preferably) that regularly has English cask beer? Failing that, any place that has good English-style cask beers (along the lines of, say, the Spotted Pig's Bitter, brewed by Brooklyn) would be of interest. A friend who lived in England is coming to town, and I want to see about getting him some good cask ale that isn't just a big American beer in a different format. Thanks.

Edit: And if you've heard of any Franconian casks coming to town, that'd be welcome, too.

The **** and Bull on 45th street regularly has English casks, they've had Old Speckled Hen, Old Golden Hen and Greene King IPA all recently.

All Greene King beers - not the best. But thanks, I will tell him about it.

I've been passing this place Jones Wood Foundry on the way to the gym a lot lately and been meaning to stop in; they have a sign out front saying they have real cask beers:

The beer menu says "JWF Cask Beers (ask server for details)"; might be worth calling and seeing what type of beers they actually have on cask.

Some Fuller's beers I've never seen before - thanks, that looks very interesting (if pricey, but it is the UES).

Edit: Took a look at their FB page - again, mostly Greene King cask ales, but with some Fuller's now and then, plus usually a local cask. I will have to call when my friend's around, see if they have anything good. Again, thanks - had never heard of the place.

No problem, hope it works out. I plan on going in the next couple weeks to check it out myself.

Lots of places have cask beer in NYC. Check here for a good list:
    http://www.cask-ale.co.uk/us/ny-cask-guide.html

The casks are not typically from the UK though. Check beer menus and call ahead just before your friend arrives... you might find some from England with some digging.

I've had Harviestoun at the Blind Tiger. Spotted Pig Bitter is great... they also serve it at the Breslin (and the Breslin is near Birreria/Eataly - a brewpub with cask ale but not necessarily in the English styles).

If your friend lived in England, wouldn't the NYC approximation pale in comparison though?

Yeah, I saw that list, and a number of others, but none of them specified English cask ales - hence my query.

Forgot about Birreria - will see what they have.

I know the selection here won't measure up - just looking for something that will do.

    Thanks.

dba Brooklyn has/had Ridgeway Foreign Export Stout (their list is 9 days old now). They're a good place to check with.
