#1 best lesson I learned about beer while I spent an extended amount of time in DC. Chasing whales there is an exercise in futility and constant disappointment.

These days, I'll be happier about a beer I know I can reliably get that is also consistently good, as opposed to going after that "one" sip of a rare handle. Don't get me wrong - I'd still do it, but I wouldn't expend as much effort as the past.

If someone wants KBS, why not trade? That's what I don't get.

Totally agree with you. Especially since everything is crazy these days in Texas. A twitter buddy posted last night that the line at Draught House for KBS was longest he'd seen it in a while. I'd rather not go wait in line for a hyped up beer.

I think collectively, we are all getting tired of chasing this stuff around town.

I recall in 2010ish it was $16 for a pour of RA Kraken (or similar) at the saucer. I paid $10 for a 10oz of PtY.

The Holy Grale in Louisville, KY, tapped KBS '10-'13, CBS, Blushing Monk, Nemsis, Backwoods Bastard '09, '11, '12 yesterday. CBS, KBS, etc. are STILL on tap.

I miss the days of not having to come 2 hours early to a bar for a special tapping.

Send me a half growlers of Nemesis and CBS? Purdy plz?!

Both are longtime wants that have gone unanswered. KY and Walez go hand and hand.

If I was in Louisville, those kegs would be floated, and I would be happily laying in a hospital bed.

    No growlers, yo.

    Can't hurt to try. :grinning:

I've heard Louisville is a cool town.

Louisville's certainly pretty impressive for how many world-class beer bars they have in such a tiny place. Plus, just cross the state line to Indiana and the distro changes.

One thing that'll help with this huge boom of incoming beer is the near-constant opening of new beer bars. Granted, that also means specific (your Petrol/Draughthouse/Moth/Common Table-type) bars will get the very special handles, but that'll still help in terms of spreading the wealth.

I remember in ausitn when only 2 or 3 places had the good beers!! and you didnt have to drive all over. those days are long gone. now instead of 3 stores getting 10 cases each. you have 30+ stores getting one case each and they feel 1 bottle limit is appropiate. I think a 2 bottle limit is more appropiate. this way you get to drink one and age a second one. I bet it's really annoying for the beer guy/girl to keep going back to the cooleror stash and pull one out everytime someone comes in asking for it. You never see this with wine. the prices which this thread is refering to are becoming ridiculous. I will not say the places ive been to gouge on here, but it's happening. im glad I can still buy freetail beers for a very reasonable price.

Eh, depends on the size of the bottle. Allocating 12 bottles to 12 people is nightmarish enough, especially when you as an employee may want to buy one. Cutting it down to 6 people almost makes ordering the case not even worth the trouble. If we're talking about 24pks like KBS though, 2 per person may be more reasonable. My store did that for our case of DR13 12 oz (which turns out to still be on the shelf in several HEBs). I'm all for spreading the wealth as much as reasonably possible. Sometimes that means that a customer has to choose between aging their one bottle or drinking it fresh. As a consumer, I'd rather have that problem than miss out on a beer entirely.

And I agree, the increase in craft beer stores and bars has only amplified the headache of dealing with limited release beers. I remember when Central Market was the ONLY store in San Antonio to get special release stuff. Hunting beer was much easier, but the selection was also far smaller. The market has grown in every aspect, and hopefully the supply will eventually catch up to the demand to some degree.

I was just discussing the insane prices a local SA bar charges where they wanted $30 for a Black Crack bottle. I'll pass!

They were doing growler fills of KBS? I thought only four kegs made it to town and they were accounted for?

You really should put a name on this. What BGThang was talking about is gouging. What you're talking about is just straight up Effed Up! No one should have paid over $12 for that in stores and high end on bars is $20. At the very least BM me so I know not to ever go there.

I'm guessing it's the same "friendly" bar that has weekly specials on Lone Star and PBR while putting insane markups on craft beer.
