You are making a mountain out of a mole hill. So, a brewery is on your shit list because you heard of and experienced some bad interactions with the brewer? Did you expect him to strike up a 10 minute conversation with some random person in a hallway outside a bathroom? Oh come on. I don't mean to sound like I'm "attacking" you, but they are just regular people who want to make great beer. You sound like one of those people who rush up to celebrities and expect them to act like you are their friend from high school.

I agree, a simple thanks would have been a normal thing to do. Maybe he was having downstairs problems since it was coming back from a BATHROOM?

Funny. I saw Shaun at the same place (on the stairs at Jose Pistolas) at roughly the same time. He looked like he was going somewhere and he reciprocated my "hi" with a "hi" of his own. It was so very... normal.

I'm wondering if there's just some basic human psychology going on here. There's a perceptual bias called "confirmation error"--a fancy way of saying we see what we expect to see, even if it's just an unconscious expectation. So if someone expects a guy to be arrogant, a quiet (or no) response fits the expectation. If someone else expects the same guy to be shy, a quiet (or no) response fits the expectation. They're both equally right and wrong, perhaps. (Of course the same thing happens when we taste a beer... if we expect it to be AMAZING we're more likely to like it.)

So to add to drinker36's plea, I think it's a good idea to check preconceived notions at the door as much as possible, even if my friend's cousin's neighbor says Brewer X was a jerk to him once. Here's to a fun PBW, full of meet-the-brewer sessions!

I am OK with Sean not coming down to Philly.
But I sure hope to see his beer at an event or two.
Hill Farmstead was definitely a highlight to my Beer Week last year.

You might also want to check out TJ's in Paoli. The (Paoli) train station is two seconds from restaurant and they have great food/brews.

When Shaun comes down here for Philly Beer Week, I don't think he's even REMOTELY trying to market his product. He's coming down here and celebrating an event about great beer. His beer's been marketed for him by us. Word of mouth. His shit's allover the goddamn place and he doesn't need to advertise OR distribute. He's sharing his shit with a market of his choice, that supports his product, despite seeing scant distribution. He could take his beer anywhere and have it be well received. But he's in Philadelphia. The guy's CLEARLY got some social disorders...and he's STILL trying to make an effort. But go ahead and crucify him because the guy felt uncomfortable when he was in your (and likely everyone else's) presence. There's a different between being a dick, and just not being capable of handling a situation.

It amazes ME how quick YOU are to label the guy as a dick without having the foggiest goddamn idea what it's like to walk a step in his shoes. That staircase was probably the only place in that crowded ass joint he could go to have a moment to himself, and he got blindsided there too. You need to cut people some slack when they're not the social butterfly you are.

I'll regret saying this but I saw some bar on Facebook a few days ago saying Ephraim is gonna be tapped in May and that HF isn't doing beer week. I haven't been able to find it in the past 48 hrs or so and it's a small thorn in my side. The woes of the calendar guy.

I am looking forward to the release of the devils den and growlers opening day lists though. Hopefully barcade is doing an opening day bash again this year too. Cheers!

Devil's Den was such a shitshow last year on opening night. Not wasting my time this year with that regardless of the taplist.

What did they have on tap that made it so crowded?

Went last year and it was so hot in there, I was soaked through in sweat, and it took all of 3 minutes for whatever beer you got to warm to 98.6 degrees. If they're doing growlers again this year (I can't believe I didn't take advantage of that last year), I'm loading up at the beginning, and getting the hell outta Dodge...quick.

That sucks! Thanks for the info though. I am going to the Phils game (4pm) and am looking for a good beer dinner to follow - Maybe South Philly taproom will have something good?
