    This exactly why my favorite brew is probably Prima Pils.

    Don't get me wrong, I love my coffee beers, the grapefruit bomb IPAs, my oak aged stouts and on and on. But more often than not, I want my beer to taste like, get this and hold your breath, beer!

    This is oddly what I was thinking today when I was shopping for beer. I could have spent $100+ on 4 six packs of big beers with insane flavors. And I would have been fine with it. But instead I bought my case of Prima, a case of Summerfest, and a case of Whitewater IPA (which I still don't understand the hate for), and ended up spending less.

    This is also probably why I can't stomach BCBS and sours.

    I find no more similarity between Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Lambic/Sour beers, than I do between SNPA and a Merlot.

    Beer, Wine, Sours; they are three separate and distinct drinking experiences for me.

    I find it odd that out of members of this site, I'd estimate 90% seek out and drink sours regularly, but I'd guess a significant amount less cross over into Wine.

    The German law which defined which ingredients can legally go into beer was nothing more than protectionist legislation designed to help out farmers of certain crops. It was also designed in part as a drug prohibition law, as many of the ingredients in Gruit Ales, which had been consumed for 1000 years prior, were somewhat psychoactive.

    I think BBA stouts can fuck right off. The beer world needs to move on, and not away from barrels but rather bourbon barrel aged big stouts

    Part of being "evolved" is understanding and putting things into context and relating them to our past experinces. That means being concerned with labels and history. I like drinking tasty beverages too, but understanding just wtf it is that I'm drinking and how it got to be that way only enriches the experience.

    When the abv is north of 15% and tastes like straight bourbon. Then it's bourbon with beer added.

    BA beer tastes a lot different than straight bourbon or coffee, etc.

    it's all preference. i love BBA beer, but i like good bourbon better, usually. (shrug) also, /second @ "if you can tell me where to grab enough pappy, i'll drink it instead of the next BA beer release." i haven't even seen the low end for like 2 years.

    All beer is beer. Sours, IPAs, Pilsners, Saisons, Bocks, Rauchbiers, Wheat beers, Scotch Ales, Adjunct Lagers, Belgian Strong Ales, ect. The list goes on and on. Just because there is a diversity of flavors and styles, all with unique characteristics, doesn't mean some no longer qualify as beer. Are some fish not fish because they look and act differently from your standard gold fish? The fact that beer takes so many different forms is what makes it the best drink in the world.

    Yes, craft innovation came to a halt at the advent or rise in popularity of the BBA Stout. Now, sadly, as we finally see some movement, wee get BA IPAs, ******ed America's number 2 obsession.
