I searched, and did not see a thread covering all three beers this year.

    1. Beerflower Wheat. I liked it. Smooth, tasty, drinkable. I also thought it was Adams answer to Shocktop. This is a good beer to bring people over from End of the World to the Adams brands.

    2. Magnificent Seven. This is a great, slightly darker pale ale. There is more malt smell/taste than the usual IPA, but the hops flavor comes from a slight sharp pine on the back of the tongue, not from overwhelming hops infusion. Again, like the contest selections wee intended to reach out to someone ready to move on from End of the World/Black and Blue/Stella.

    3. Strawberry Lager. I am not a fan of these two flavors together in beer, so take what I am saying with that in mind. I think this is a lighter version of the Abita beer.

I get the feeling that this year the contest went towards reaching out to people ready to move on past InBev and SAB, and not the usual Adams customers.

I thought magnificent 7 was pretty good, a bit messy on the hops, but the other two sucked. the wheat was really too sweet, I don't want a wheat to be sweet. the strawbeery, was, well, a strawberry beer... No thanks.

“I get the feeling that this year the contest went towards reaching out to people ready to move on past InBev and SAB, and not the usual Adams customers.” An astute comment. In my opinion this comment could also be applied to the Longshot competition over the past few years (e.g., the last 2-3 years). To be honest, I can’t recall the last time I was motivated to purchase a Longshot 6-pack, maybe 5 years ago?

    Cheers!

I see where you are coming from on the Wheat, but I thought it was very drinkable, and a couple could finish their Stellas and grab two of these from the bartender and be very happy.

Then again, I thought KBS and Nemesis are too much.

I loved all three. I love the idea behind the long shot series and seek them out each time they're released. To be fair, I went into this with somewhat low expectations but each beer was a lot better than I was expecting, especially Magnificent Seven. Unfortunately I only got a six pack, may have to go back for a case

Me too. Always worth trying them and I've usually been fairly pleased. And some have been really top notch.

They were all drinkable, but none really stood out to me. I wouldn't get any of them again.

What's everyone seeing for a price point on a six pack of this? Upstate New York pushing it at $19.99 which seemed ludicrous to me, how bout you guys?

I got them as singles for $1.79 or so each.

I assumed they would be the same price as your standard SA six pack.

i always liked the idea but i dont get why they picked these 3 beers this year. they must of got a ton of IPAs and imperial beers entered into the contest. but they pick a basic wheat beer, a pale ale and a fruit lager? they must of wanted to keep costs down on it

just looked them up, they say the wheat is actually a hibiscus wheat and that the magnificent seven is actually a ipa

So, it smells and tastes like orange dish soap?

It is pretty darn far-fetched that the three best beers in the judging included a wheat beer and a fruit beer. I talked to a Longshot judge a couple years ago (griping to him about the perennial fruit beer) and he insisted the judging is legit. I believe him, but man, how can a table-full of people agree that a berry-beer is a contender for best of show?

Which year had, I believe it was the Altbier (almost like an imperial alt), Old Ale and Barleywine? That was a pretty good year.

I think that was 2010, which had a Barleywine, Old Ale, and a Lemon-Pepper Saison. I skipped the LongShot this year particularly because I expected it to be closer to styles like that than something out of an Abita summer mix-pack

That's it, the alt was a different year, when they also had an imperial stout.

That strawberry lager has been haunting my palate for the past week since I tried it...like swallowing mouthful after mouthful of strawberry jam. Way too sweet to be refreshing. Last year's mix pack was quite good, this year's not so much.

From years past I remember loving the Old Ale, DIPA, Barleywine
The Altbier may have been the year with the DIPA. I could be wrong though.
