Saw Rodenbach Grand Cru and Classic Red on tap at Pinthouse Pizza yesterday. Taplister shows Grand Cru on tap at the Draught House. I would assume/hope bottles are on the way.

Yeah, I tweeted Draught House and they said we're FINALLY going to be seeing it regularly.

Grand Cru is a go to sour.

Definitely a go to sour. Grand Cru and another sour called Bios (different brewery) were my first introduction to wilds/sours about 25 years ago. I used to find both beers in NYC when I used to travel there. Then while in grad school it was available at a small beer centric bar called the Rendezvous in St. Augustine, Florida.

For those who like wild/sours, Rodenbach Grand Cru is in some ways more subtle than many of the domestic sours brewed these days (Jester King, The Bruery, Jolly Pumpkin, etc.). But the depth of flavors rivals many of the new kids on the block. Unfortunately the complexity has diminished over the years (you can thank Palm for that). Still, a beautiful beer.

Hmm saw specs and d&q in Houston have this. May have to grab a few so I don't run through my boxers, funk metal, and la folie stores when I want that sour kick...

Its OK, but I find it a little too "wine-ish" tasting for my enjoyment. I dont like wine.

bring on the grape bubble gum/koolaid, thanks to john harvey for this. Everytime I drink grand cru I get these flavors now. like grape koolaid. warning it will now stick with you

Your Tabasco beer? It was AWESOME. Rodenbach, not nearly so much.

Which pretty much nullifies your "It's OK" comment. I never understand why anyone would judge a beer that clearly has flavors they don't/can't appreciate. It's like, "I ate a piece of cake yesterday. But it was just okay. It had chocolate in it. I don't like chocolate".

Yeah, just stick with those world class Tabasco beers...

Soooo, he's a moron because he expects a beer to taste like beer rather than wine?

Personally, I judge every beer I drink on its own merits, even if I'm not fond of the style. Sometimes I find gems. I generally don't like brown ales, but I'm very fond of Anchor Brekle's Brown and Indy Bootlegger. I don't like (non-hefe) wheat beers, but I love Guadalupe Americano Wheat.

Never said anyone was a moron. And that 'beer' taste you mention is pretty far ranging these days. Especially when it comes to wilds/sours (and many other styles). To expect those beers to taste like 'beer' (whatever that means) seems limiting to me. Personally, I'm not a fan of Kolsch-style beers. I used to read Michael Jackson wax poetic about all the great Kolsch's he found in Germany. When I did find a Kolsch I found tolerable, a friend told me it was atypical of the style (figures). I just don't get the style, so I don't criticize those beers.

So if there is an element of a beer I dont like, I shouldn't mention that? Its called an opinion - feel free to disagree. I didn't criticize the beer - I have 3 bottles, and have drank 2, so clearly dont hate it. I just find it to have a wine-like taste that keeps me from completely loving it the way I do most other sours. Thus, why I find it to be just "OK"

Have you had BgThang's Tabasco beer? If not, you shouldn't comment on it (according to your rules). But I will point out that everyone in the room loved it when we sampled it, and I would drink it any day.

I tried it at one of the Freetail bottle shares. That's some baller-ass beer.

no worries, I get that reaction alot when I tell them what it is. People are to quick to judge a book by it's cover rather then read the book (or taste a beer (true advocay what the hell is that?)). Had a group of younger guys who showed up to a "HOMEBREW" picnic, one of the local groups were hosting and asked them if they wanted to try a tabasco porter. they all turned their respective noses up. Only after several other people at the gathering started raving about it, did they want to try it. Fortunately it was all gone by then and I had to say sorry it's all gone. Too many people get in to something because it's cool or the latest trend. I believe craft beer is that way to a degree. It's the "IN" thing to do. Here comes something along, that is totally against tradition, against the trending style or concept and it's nah i'll pass. If you are truely a beer advocate, foodie, etc... you should always be open to trying things, and never talk against something you have never tried. You will miss out on a lot of things that are truely cool in this life and world.

True enough. My wife loves sours (and Rodenbach Grand Cru especially) because they don't have that "beer" flavor. I also know that kmello69 likes sours, though I didn't want to presume to speak for him. Some sours are more wine-like than others.
