    Greetings!

On this particular Anniversary Eve, our production facility has bottled a brew that has become an absolute cult classic at Short's--Anniversary Ale. I can confidently say that this does not last long on the shelf!

Since 2010 we have brewed and bottled the Anniversary Ale in Elk Rapids to sell throughout Michigan in limited 6 packs always near the end of April in honor of our company's anniversary. Defined as a Wheatwine, the malt bill consists of over 50% malted white wheat and through the use of a double mash process, and extended boil time, has a high gravity resulting in a beer that ranges from 9-10% each year.

To complement the bright citrus additions of blood orange zest and juice, we use Amarillo and Simcoe hop varieties, which are known for their intense floral fruity aromatic and flavor qualities. As well as providing a great bitterness that also works perfectly with the bitterness of the blood oranges.

Usually known for it's radiant purple hue, this year's Anniversary Ale has a much lighter color due to a poor blood orange crop.

    Cheers!

Anniversary Ale: A high gravity wheat wine made with blood oranges that render an alluring dark purple hue to the color. Flavor abounds from the spice of green peppercorns and tang from blood orange zest. Aggressive dry hop additions amplify the citrus overtones and spiciness found throughout. ‘Anni’ Ale typifies the full magnitude of Short’s Brewing Company by embodying all the complexities and fulfillment necessary to pay tribute to another year of brewing.

I second this, with fresh Pistachio Cream Ale and PB&J close behind.

I love this beer so much. Horribly underrated. I just had my last 2012 last week, and it ages beautifully. Easily one of my favorites of the entire Shorts lineup.

FYI -- only 300 cases are being released statewide. The usual amount of a specialty bottle release is 600.

I'm not 100% sure how many were made last year--I want to say close to 500.

That being said, don't fret! We all know it's hitting stores soon and you'll have plenty of time to pick up some.
